CX-5 2.0 slow and sluggish, but not after break in.

I've been wondering about how it works. A lot of reviews complain about how it takes a lot of pedal pressure to get it to downshift. I experienced that too on my test drive. I was wondering if it learns after awhile that the driver is trying to provoke downshifts, and then downshifts with less pressure?

Yes it sure seems to learn your desires. I climbed a huge hill on my test drive and my foot nearly had to touch the floor to downshift, now its seamless like it should be.

Another thing ive noticed (my 10' mazda3 did this too) is if I am driving very aggressively it holds the car in a lower gear for a while assuming you will keep driving aggressively. Takes maybe 10-15 seconds to calm down and realize your not going to punch it again.

It does improve as you described, less pressure needed for downshifting when driven extensively by an aggressive driver. I've experienced it over the last 7K miles. And I drive 2 other much more powerful cars on a regular basis for comparison. The doggie sub-100 mile demo cars are usually driven conservatively with lame salesperson in passenger seat supervising.

btw - My gas mileage is down about 1/2 mile to the gallon when compared to first 1000 miles or so.

I don't hear my wife complain about it as much as when we first bought it, so maybe you guys are on to something.
But, it is still anemic to me. Though, it is perfectly adequate until somebody cuts you off or something. >: (

Adequate power, above average MPG for a awd compact SUV.
