custom tail lights?

i would like to do some custom work on my tail lights...
i used to have a 97 grandam gt and i removed the lights and took them apart and i was able to remove the red film so that the tails were clear...i then did some other work on them...i was wondering if anyone knew if this was possible on the protege?

by the way...this is my first post as i just got my 2003 protege on thursday and i must say these cars ****** kick ass...

if you try to open them, do not heat the housings, as they will literally shrink, and no longer fit as a taillight, just a warning.

guess your spekaing from experiance?? thanks for the tip. whew.....if i wanted to take apart the housing the first thing would have done is tried heating them with a heat gun.

you could always tint them. And yes they are still bright enough when on and when brakes are on. Can't tell the car didn't come stock like this.

If I missed any people just throw em' in. Hope it helps. Personally I have the carbon fiber tails, best ones IMO no matter what color the car.

yeah you were its weird that the taillights shrink but the headlights don't...but i trust you , i cant afford to shell out money for tails just yet...

headlights, taillights same thing
but i wonder why the tail lamps would shrink. and if you dont mind me asking did you try to take yours apart and put it back together? if so why?
