hello pro5 drivers:
Has any of you thought about getting a custom pipe running from where the cat is till your muffler? Acctually I just did it yesterday, and it was not bad.... but I dont really like the sound of the muffler, and it's a spoon street type. ( I know it's weired, but it was free from my friend). So I am thinking of buying a Mazdaspeed muffler from my dealer, do you think the sound would change? Can someone describe what the Mazdaspeed mufflers sound like?

Need your advice.....:p

seeing as how I don't know what your current set up sounds like there is no way we can say if it will change or not....HOWEVER....

the mazdaspeed muffler you can get from your dealer has a very nice LOW growel to it.....if you are familiar what older english sport cars sound like...its similar to that...only a tad bit louder....they sound quite good...

What you have done by replacing the pipe between your cats and the muffler section is you now have what is refered to as a CATBACK system....lots of us have them.....some custom made....others store baught.

The turbulance of the exhaust is directly related to the sound as well as the cross sectional thickness of the muffler. The smaller the volume of the canister typically the higher pitched the exhaust sound will be verses the larger canister produces a lower tone exhaust sound..hope this helps...peace!

Is there anyhow we could have a catback system with the Mazdaspeed muffler on but not cutting anything off?

all you need to do is remove the pipe from just in front of the muffler...where it bolts together....up to the second cat.....its all one long pipe, it has a resonator in it.....and replace it all with nice smoothe mandral bent 2 1/4 inch tubing.

Sir Nuke:
Do you know where to find the long pipe you were talking about? I've been trying to look for catback systems what are made by various brands out there, such as racing beat, flying miata... But all I got is one answer " We dont sell them seperately" So, it would be really helpful if you could tell me where to find the pipe with bolts on. Then, it would fit perfectly with the second cat and the Mazdaspeed muffler. Thanks for providing your information.

Just go to a muffler shop or any place that can bend you the pipe and they will either be able to do it for you or point you to somewhere in your area that you could get it done.

as mark mentioned...go to a reputable muffler shop....it the shop is worth a crap they can and do make custom exhaust system set-ups....and have them make you one.....

The only drawback from a "typical exhaust/muffler shop is most will not provide mandrel bends. But, if that doesn't bother you..which most don't,like me, then it is an affordable way to go..as long as the business is reputable as Sir Nuke stated. I usually take this route as well..peace!
