Custom Performance Engineering's front mount intercooler kit

So, if purchased, I can expect the CPE FMIC to do the following three things:?

1. Lots more cooler air (approximately 15 deg F) by avoiding hood resrictions.
2. Avoid engine heat soakup at idle by not being an engine mount.
3. Increase efficiency of turbo by decreasing pressure drop.

I guess the only question I have is how much pressure drop? Originally it was said that there was a 3.5 psi pressure drop from the stock IC. And the FMIC showed a 1/3 less pressure drop. This should calculate out to a little more than 1 psi. Am I correct in saying that the FMIC will give me 1 psi previously restricted by the stock IC?

You are 100% right-on with all three of your points. We're actually waiting to release a full validation of our intercooler which addresses the pressure loss, but I don't think anyone at cp-e is going to get tweaked by my posting one graph. If they do, I'm blaming it on you! (lol2)

So, here's a graph of two WOT runs, one with the stock top mount, and another using our core.

You'll notice that the stock intercooler loses nearly 4psi at peak boost, whereas ours loses about a pound and a half. So, disregard the better efficiency of our intercooler for a moment. If you bolt on our FMIC kit, you'll get nearly 2.5lbs of boost for free. That amounts to about 20-30hp without even considering the added cooling.

(nailbyt) CAN'T WAIT!! not to mention a front mount would look sexy as hell!!! (headbang)

We got the intercooler cores in last week, and Anthony is working on fixturing the core itself today. So hopefully we'll have some good news for everybody soon. We're dying to get this product out, and we sincerely apologize for the delays. We just want to make sure that we get this thing right the first trime around! (burnout)

No complaints from this guy. I am anxious to read the full validation. I'm certain it will further convince me of the inevitable.....(which I may be living the single life after this). HAHA. CPE planning on releasing the piggyback and the intercooler at the same time? Sounds convenient, huh? Why don't you just take ALL MY DAMN TAX RETURN MONEY.....!!!!!(no) (no) HAHA!

Damn it man , i can barely keep up with one turbo car at the house, now that i added the MS3 your forcing me to spend more money than i want to. I hate you :D

KEEP IT UP. Need a MS3 test baby? :D

I didn't think you were gonna do anything to your MS3?
Guess I won't be pulling on you anytime soon :D

Thanks!! Actually, the SPEED3 is our first shop vehicle, so this is the first time that we haven't had to beg and plead for someone to bring a particular car by our shop. It's a nice change for us :D

However, we do need someone with a SPEED3 to verify the fittment of our new turbo back exhaust system. I put a thread in the SPEED3 forum, but unfortunately they need to be local to us, so that seriously narrows our selection pool. So if you're ever in the MD. area, give us a call sometime.

would this FMIC work with your current CAI?

Actually, the FMIC requires a cold air kit of some kind, and the cp-e XCel CAI will work just fine. The stock airbox is just too big to let the pipes pass through the engine bay, and CAI kits really free up a lot of space.

Spike, I'm not gonna to lie to you. The CX7 is a fun SUV/car, but the SPEED3 has the same engine with about 1000lbs less weight to carry around, and things are only going to get better. The SPEED3 mercilessly shreds the tires even in second gear when you stomp on it. But personally, I'd take a SPEED6 because I prefer AWD, and the SPEED6 is a pretty potent package despite the weight disadvantage. But that's just me... :D

We're working on the fixtures today and we're trying to get them done as soon as we can. I've been giving tentative deadlines for ourselves in the past that we haven't been able to keep, so I can't tell you for sure when this project is going to be completed, but I hope it's done by next week. The price should come in somewhere around $1000.

I'm working feverishly to get the SVO going again. Hoping for 400+whp. But who knows. i knw i see meth injection and 30 PSI in my future (headbang)
