Has anyone seen, or done anything like this with their Mazda's? I am looking to start this soon and was wondering if anyone had any pics or pointers for me.

Thanks!

interesting..... I guess it depends on the external color of your car. I like the lower part but the upper part not so much.

i say go for it, but the plastic you will be painting in some areas is actually a coating over plastic. best advice would be to go around and ask some local interior shops to see what they use to "dye" plastic trim.

odds are you don't want it to look like s***

I've seen people do it with just gloss black, but not with any color, though TEKWATCH on M3F used to have his upper center dash section (the part in your picture that has the screen) painted a pretty similar blue to his car's paint.

If you do do it the biggest thing you can do to make a difference is preparation, preparation and preparation. Sand everything smooth, prime it, sand it again, maybe prime depending on how smooth you get it, then paint, paint, paint, clear. The more meticulous you are in the beginning stages the better your end product is going to be. The more half assed your pred the worse it will be.

I agree that the lower section would look good. The problem with doing the upper section is that it makes the upper dash glossy which is just going to reflect sunlight back into your eyes.

if that's too much color for you, you could always just paint the panels by the window switches and door handles

interior color like that looks cheap, tacky, and rice. especially if it's DIY. mini offers interior panels from the factory that match the exterior color and none of them look good. i'd stay away from coloring large areas like that. small accent can be good, but even that can be hard to pull of tastefully.

OP: you have 4 posts and both are the same identical question. One in the MS3 section and one here. Ill post my pic again, consult a bodyshop about doing it though. Its the only way itll come out halfway decent.

not yellow: Damn man, tell us how you really feel. Heres my "rice" interior for ya ;) lol.

hehe... nothing personal. it's all just a matter of individual taste anyway. i have yet to see an interior like that that didn't come out looking tacky. but you know i love your exterior!

it's a crappy cellphone pic but this is what i was talking about

not as ricey looking as doing the whole center console IMHO but still not something everyone will like
also lol at my yellow^^^ irony...

just bought

i just bought a 2006 Mazda 3 and i find that my interior is a bit too plain :( i intend on painting some accent parts inside the car but i was wondering how you went about removing the steering wheel covers for the buttons? oh and what kind of paint do you recommend?

thanks (Y)
