I did a stupid thing and curbed my passanger rear rim in 2 spots about 1/2"- 1". It doesn't help that the rim sticks out at the side wall of the tire... I hate that... I usually buy my lo pro tires with rim guards. Anywayz....does anyone know the paint code for the rims? I found a couple of sites with instruction on refinishing the wheels with bondo and paint and want to try it out before I shell out $$$ for new rims. Thanks in advance.

I have a Dremel and scuffed my rim too a few months back. I will try to smooth it down then buff it. I just need to get a few minutes and the Dremel manual which explains how to do it. Not sure why you paint them, or if it's needed. I'll report back with pics if I can remember.

The rims aren't bare metal, they're painted to begin with. So when you dremel them smooth, you want to paint them to match it up, and also to protect the bare metal underneath. This is why my 5 doesn't have aftermarket wheels and tires yet, because I'm not the one who drives it, my girlfriend does. Everytime I wash it, I see the small rashes on the passenger side wheels.

Kid Red: Any updates or pics ? The wife FINALLY ( I was waiting for 4 months) curbed the right rear. AARRGGHH!!
I'll probably try the Dremmel thing too. Only thing is I have a single speed.

We got a guy from a place called Chicago Alloy Wheel that comes up here and fixes our rash. Ranges from small scuffs ($25) to full curbage ($150+) per wheel. Not bad if you ask me, beats the heck out of trying it on your own wheels and screwing something up.
I'm not sure how he does it, but it looks damn good when he's done. Good color matching and filling.
I'm sure there's a place like that in most areas, hit up the dealers with alot of used cars and see who they use.

Well, I took the plung and used the Dremmel today.I didn't want to shave off too much. Also tried to find a color as close as possible to the stock wheel color. I rummaged through my model paints and found a good enough color. I slathered on 3 coats. Maybe I'll hand sand it and put on another coat or two. Here are the results:

Good enough for me! :)

Wow... that looks good. Did you mix the paint to match? Is it water proof? You mentioned that it was model paint.... will it hold up to the elements? I was going to use putty and and sand and use rim paint... Gotta wait till the rainy season is over.. I'll post some pics as soon as the weather dries up.

Nearly all the rims on my RX-8 are scuffed, not from curbing but from deep enough potholes. I know it sucks :(

No , I didn't mix n match. I had 3 types of silver/aluminum and just took the closest to the wheel color. Not sure how it'll hold up to the elements but if it fades or chips, I can just re-touch it. :)
PS: Hoping to transfer to your area one of these years. ;)
