Cruise Control

I'm not 100% sure that this is where I should post this or not, but, I figure I'll give it a shot. I'm looking to get cruise control put on my Mazda 3. I don't want to go with aftermarket, and it seems as though most of Mazda's parts are plug-and-play. I called my dealer, and they claim that they cannot install cruise control, and that it is an aftermarket only deal. However, I read on another forum that someone bought the part straight from the dealer and had them installed. I called the dealer again, this time with part numbers. They did in fact carry the parts. What all would (or should) I need to install cruise control on my 3? I did not originally have cruise control (nor a DIS, but I later found out I actually had one).

What model and year do you have? The later models are throttle by wire and cruise cannot be added.

Interesting. I though all 2007 would have the cruise standard because it is really easy. The throttle is controlled by the ECU and it knows how fast you are going. The only cost is the little switch and turning on the software. If you don't have it, I think you are pretty much screwed because there is no way to add an aftermarket one, even if you wanted it. Sorry.

that's where I read about an installation kit. I called my dealer and he knew of no such thing... but carried the parts indicated in the thread.

Well, I have to apologise for talking out of my a**. But, I think your dealer owes you an apology too, as it looks doable. I suggest you look for another dealer who has a clue. But, I'll step out now because obviously I don't know everything either. Sorry to mislead - good luck, and thanks for the lesson.

naw, don't worry about it. I'm just hoping that I can make this happen. If I get it to work, I'll do a nice how-to. I'm sure I'm not the only one who's run into this. I would have gotten cruise from the factory, but they happened to have a really good deal on a 3 sitting on the lot, it just happened to have next to no options on the car.

all 3's have throttle by wire as far as i know... the only thing i can think of that may not would be a base model i or something with crank windows but i was under the assumption that all models have always had the throttle by wire my 04s model does.

as far as cruise control goes i suggest calling to find another dealer and see what they say.

funny you should mention crank windows. guess what mine's got? its basic as basic gets. the two options that were on the car when I bought it was a spoiler and air conditioning. that's it.
