Cruise control stopped working

:
MAZDA, CX-5, AWD, TOURING
Hello,

The cruise control on my Mazda 2016 CX-5 stopped working this morning (or at least today I noticed it).

As a feature, it's turned on with the amber light activated on the dashboard.
However, it's doing nothing when I press + or – switches.

It can’t be turned off either and the light is always staying amber after turning the car off completely.

Any help or guidance is appreciated.

Thank You.

Try disconnecting the negative battery terminal for an hour or so. Reconnect and see what happens. That has been known to cure some glitches. Can't hurt to try.

Hello,

The strangest thing happened: I adjusted the angle of the steering wheel (tilt) then the cruise control started working again.

I'm guessing the wire connector of the cruise switches didn't function properly.

Thanks for your input.

If you can inspect the wires, make sure they're not frayed. If there's a harness make sure everything is plugged and tight.

That sounds like the steering wheel clock spring is defective.

That's a wound up little harness inside the steering wheel connecting to all the switches. It unwinds or winds a bit more, depending on the way you turn it. It's very common to fail as a car ages. It's not too difficult to repair, probably several you-tube videos on it if you search there. Just follow safe practice for removing the air bag: disconnect battery FIRST before anything else.
