Crazy mod

It can be illegal due to the fact that it "obstructs the driver's view."

That camera setup is great! You should run the wires under the headliner though. Where did you get the mount? I just recently wanted to get a camcorder going, I need to get a shock proof mount or whatever but I dont really know what theyre called.

Thanks, I actually hardly use the GPS this vehicle, I sort of have it permanently mounted in my prius.
The image is actually zoomed in so it gives the illusion that the camera blocks the centre of my windscreen. In reality the camera itself is very small (check your local best buy or sony store) and the only moving parts are the mechanisms adjusting the lens; the camera records directly to a memory stick (no hard drive or tapes to worry about ) so no worries about durability. Furthermore, i dont plan to drive with a camcorder everytime i use the car, only on days off when i cruise around :)

As for the camera mount, i just looked for any cheap low profile on sale and used epoxy to stick it on the dash. I just had to make sure it came with a quick release feature.
It's a very cool setup, so far i'm enjoying it. on the other hand, it's also very interesting to see how many crazy drivers i have also caught and saved on camera, one of them even looked drunk swirving halfway between lanes. The videos are high definition and it shows alot of the details, but as long as they didnt bother me i really dont care :)
