Crappy gas mileage

Good questions, Matt. I did not downshift once the whole trip, which was really surprising - I was really happy how the PR5's engine handled the inclines!

I guess the mileage could be low since I was going up the mountains. I'll post my mileage going back to see if there is a difference.

Oh, on a side note, the car is MUCH quieter with the roof racks removed!

Well, i would imagine youd even out on the way down though right? you waste all that gas on the way up, but then you do a lot of coasting on the way down. You should be getting a little better mileage but I wouldnt ask for much more than that. I average around 25mpg city/highway

Over the past 2 years, my average mpg is 25.8. My high mpg is 35, when I was doing 55 on the highway for a few hours. My low was this winter when I pulled 14.5 mpg on one tank.

I cleaned my EGR valve and noticed a jump from 24 mpg to 28 mpg, with similar driving/driving conditions.

2002 mazda protege 99k miles

Anyone know anything else I can clean/ any other maintenance I should perform?
