Crackling noise....what is it?

It's detonation. I was pushing 14psi without hearing a single thing on my car before the flash and so after I flashed, I turned it up to 14 again and sure enough, the pinging started. I've turned it down again for a bit until I get a job so if it does blow, I won't be stuck.

Could be, it just depends on a lot of things. You may also want to change your spark plugs out to the NGK BKR7E since it's a heat range colder. JoeP was known to make that statement and after reading more of "Maximum Boost", it definately makes sense to do it.

Also, be sure to run only premium gas. A local guy here runs 89 grade in his MSP and tears the hell out of it. We'll see how long his car lasts. :D

Remember, plugs aren't a complete safety thing. It's just one added "protection layer". Be careful.

you've had it up to 15psi, your whole motto is I have an EBC so I can raise it to whatever I please. Trust me you did it to yourself, Lack of tuning knowledge.

I dont think you are HEARING detonation. If you heard it, it would be immediately followed by your engine stopping. You dont hear detonation, if it detonates, its over. the crackling noise, depending on what your definition of crackling is, could be valve chatter, could be a couple things, even something as little as a loose heat shield.(dunno)

great job making 2 posts about the same thing.

N00bs probably figure that if no one replies to their thread, the natural solution is to make a new one.

By the way, be careful with the boost or you'll throw a rod like the mystery member. :p
