I got an estimate of 240, for 5% tint on the back windows and rear windshield and 17% on the front window excluding the windshield.

As far as the tint darkness goes, i figure that 5% in back will not affect my driving much, do you guys think 17% in front is light enough to drive at night?

i would go 20% all around and 35% front imo

and that price sounds good

just having 20% all around affects my driving at night.. love it though!!

5 percent would be very hard to see at night.. unless u had all the windows down

Oh, and I ended up paying 180 or so all in all.. long story to the price.. tried to tint it myself with precut stuff, then just ended up going to the pros.. price worked out alright though.

I wouldn't go any darker the 20%. I just had 20% put on all around and its plenty dark. As for the price, sounds a bit high, but it all depends on what brand of tint they use. I paid $140 just for labor with a windshield banner (I bought the tint elsewhere).

Price to me sounds a bit high, too. I also paid around $140 including the windshield banner. I got the legal limit in FL for the front windows (28%) and all around since on my MS3, I had 15% and it was way too dark for me at night. Backing out of my driveway at night was a pain and so was any where remotely dark.

I got mine done for $200 all around (minus the windshield) and including the sunroof at 20%. I have 30% all around and that is even dark backing up at night. Going any lower than 20% is going to make it unsafe at night in certain situations so be careful. Make sure the place gives a life-time warranty too, that is extremely important because odds are it will bubble sometime down the road and you don't want to have to pay to get the entire window redone.

Also you might want to check out your state laws regarding tint. I know here in PA it is illegal to have ANY aftermarket tint but the cops in my area have real world stuff to deal with so won't pull me over for it. But I guarantee you if I get pulled over for speeding they will nail me for the tint too. The darker you go, the more likely they will notice it. So if your state says its illegal, and your local cops are a-holes, odds are they will pull you over and give you a tint ticket.

Whatever you do, just make sure it's legal where you live. There is NO point in paying for a professional tint job only to get pulled over a week later and get a ticket cuz you're illegal. And you'll keep getting tickets every time that cop sees you until you pull off the tint.. ask me how I know?

If your state allows really dark tint, then I would suggest 20-30% all around. No need for any darker than that.

EDIT: Well a little research shows that Michigan is one of those pain in the ass states when it comes to tint. You can only tint the top 4" of your front door windows.. so that's pointless. But you can have any darkness you want on the back doors and hatch. I'd go with 20% or so, especially if you won't tint the fronts. If you still do decide to do the fronts that's your call.. but I'm telling you, window tint is one of those things that cops LOVE to nail drivers on. Cuz they can keep coming back to get ya every time they see you until you take care of it. Oh and ticket gets more and more expensive every time too..

I've been quoted $200 for four doors and the hatch...add $25 for the front windshield banner from a local shop in town. They use the Suntek brand.

IMO, that quote seems high and I'd call a few other places. Money saved on tint is money spent on other mods. :D

i just got my tint done this summer at notorious tintz in livonia. good people, and very good job.

it cost me $200. (no windshield banner)I might have gotten a little discount since i brought both my cars in at once. (the mazda5 cost me $240, with a windshield banner, and it has a lot of little stupid windows)

anyways, i got 5% on the rears and hatch, and 20% on the fronts. yes, pretty much any tint on the front is illegal here in MI. if you are worried about such things (depending on the suburb, the cops usually have better things to worry about) 50% is barely noticeable and would give you some light protection.

a lot of people say 5% is too much, but i work midnight and do all my driving at night. i can still back into my parking spaces. if it is really dark, i just roll down my front windows. you have side mirror right? i can also see just fine out my front windows with 20%.

the nice thing, my car (black mica with black interior) is so much cooler now, and the a/c can actually keep up. also, at night, i dont need to flip my rear view mirror any more.

have you been in a car with 5% tint? do you know how dark it will look?
might help to check one out if you know someone.

here is what my p5 looks like.

i think 5 percent is a bit crazy, but if you dont have tint laws in your state, go for it
if you do, your just asking to get pulled, i have 35% on mine and i dont really like it,
i wish i would have went with 20%

me and mazdaspeedster3 both have little ones.

i sat in his 5 and he had 20% in the back. the sun was still very bright if it was direct. that is why i went with 5% in the back. the sun barely bothers the baby.

Im getting it done at detail express in west bloomfield, comes with a lifetime warranty for bubbles and discoloring. My friend has 5% all around on his Z28
it gets a little dark at night but if its just on my back windows idt it would affect my night driving. I might evfen go 35% on the front windows because in MI front tint is illegal without a doctors note but if its that light i dont think theyll give me s***.

every cop is different. ive talked to some that are strick about the none, and ive talked to some that say as long as they can put a piece of paper behind it, and still read it, then it is ok.

35% should be ok, especially with the rears at 5%. the fronts will look so much lighter that they might not think they are tinted.

The other thing is im a teenager so automatically ill get my car searched anyway so the tint isnt really a big deal to cops around here

I recently got a bunch of quotes for my P5, ranged from about $190 to $229.

Here is something I used when I was looking:

This is actually the shop I went to. Should give you an idea of what you want. 30% all the way around still looks best to me. Its right on the line of is there tint or not? Which to me means that it looks the cleanest.

You'll hate yourself when you're backing out of a spot late at night and you have 5% on the rear. I have 15% back, 35% front and I love it.
