Correct application of air-pressure for Yoko 20" Spec-X's

Hello to all and I hope you and your family had a Merry Christmas and you all have a healthy and safe New Year.

Just put my first 9K on my Yoko Spec-X's and had them balanced and rotated. The max tire pressure per the spec's is 50-51psi. I do about 65% interstate & 35% city driving. All of my terrain 98% flat, no snow and no ice. Summer heat far exceeds our mild winters in hot days vs cold days overall.

I had DT fill my tires to 45psi, to get the most uniform and longest lasting wear. I have been informed by some alignment shops in our area [city of 3 million] that certain tire companies tell their employees to under inflat the airpressure so it will wear the thread off faster. I am not, by any means, intending to shoot any flaming arrows, but my intent is to get your experience and what % psi I should inflate my tires based on my driving conditions? I am looking for the best wear rate and comfort of ride combined. OBviously, I do not want my tires to wear faster than they should. I replaced the original OEM Firestones at 36K and could have gone further, but I hear you guys recommend much sooner.

Appreciate your feedback and pls me know if you have any quesitons.

Best Regards,
tstex

tstex,
I used to frequent Prius forum. Those guys over there were (still are) crazy about MPG.
They inflate tires to 40-45psi as a norm.
The benefit, of course, is better MPG by 5-10% on highways (less obviously on city driving).
Another unexpected benefit is more even wear. This is surprising (and probably tire-dependent!)
Some tires (particularly the low-rolling resistance tires - often put on hybrids) tend to wear on the
outer edges (LRR tires have stronger side walls). "Over-inflating" evens out the wear.

The downside is obvious, bumpy ride for one. Less road-holding for another.

For those who are afraid that the tire might blow at that PSI. Don't worry. Tire makers would tell you
in private that those "max psi" ratings are way under-rated for legal concern. Millions of people
run their tires at 40+ psi w/o any accidents (check priuschat.com if you doubt me).

Anyway, it is your call. I run mine at 38-40 psi. Best trade-off for me.
You should vary the PSI to find what suits you.
