This piece is awesome, I had the original 2 piece design, and I loved it on my car.
The Stock S pipe gets down to 2" in some places so this piece will def improve the flow.
I cant comment on the power difference because I never had an OEM s and J on my car, but im sure there is a noticable difference

The stock S pipe gets down to way less than 2" if you measure the inner diameter. I've looked for the corksport S pipe for what seems like years now and never chimed in on time to pick up a used one, and called Corksport more than once about making another batch. I put on an SLS midpipe after advice that our restriction was in the cats and most of the exhaust gains were from that one swap, but it didn't even make a tenth of a MPH differece in the 1/4. The midpipe is now sitting on my garage floor waiting for me to decide what to do with it. $400 paper weight.

I've actually decided to buy a new daily driver, one with a little more refinement and performance, but now that I see this thread, crap. I really want to get rid of that Callaway garbage that is clearly the bottleneck on our cars, but it seems pointless if I am going to sell the car. I wish I had another garage bay.

If I put this on the car, I would go have the rest of the exhaust done custom to be a perfect 2.5" all the way back, exhaust up over the rear like stock, and sleeper quiet.

So it's a $1000 easy on a $7k car. That's money towards that new loan. Tough decisions, but I really want to see the market for the MSP survive. If it's $350 I am in to keep it going.

I've been trying to get them to pickup my downpipe, but they haven't gotten anything going on that either. (shrug)

I would be interested in the group buy. Especially if their was a combo deal with the corksport 80mm exhaust system as that was going to be my next upgrade anyways. the price is a bit steep, especially seeing as I am having to replace my motor.

I sure hope this ends up getting made. I need a downpipe soon. As long as this will clear AT LEAST an AWR oil pan and MAYBE the lower tie brace I'll pay the 400/450 being asked. Our cars are getting harder and harder to find products for :/

Just put the pope on, and it fit like horse s***, , used allen head bolts and they still hit the pipe. Pope didnt have that nice flange, like that so if you have to take the turbo out again you can. Should put a flex, and that flange.

The thing with the pope is that it was never meant to fit like a glove. It's a FULL 3" downpipe, and the only one ever made for the Protege. Having said that, there's a reason no one ever made it before, and it has to do with exactly what you're complaining about.. fitment. It's just too damn tight if you want to keep the stock turbo setup.

Now I know this isn't the right thread for a Pope DP discussion, but it sure would be nice to see CorkSport attempt something similar. Another full 3" DP would be great, and it sounds like Pope is more than willing to share his knowledge and experience to make it easier for you guys. Offering a couple other goodies as optional items would potentially net you guys some more profit as well. Offer a water neck adapter for an extra cost and I'm sure most of us will buy it, and maybe even consider something like what Grimmspeed makes for the Subaru guys that want to mate a 3" DP to a 2.5" midpipe.

3" is overkill for this car, at least for my goals. There's only so much power you can give to a FWD daily driver.
I would like to see a 2.5 option back on the table, but it doesn't look like Corksport is going to step up again. At least it looks like PEP is making a 2.5" flange option for those with more meager exhaust requirements.

I have the pope caus I got it cheap off here. Same with the Mam mani, plus my catback is a 2.5 I just used a reducer from 3 to 2.5, exhaust is 1 of the most easy things to do on a car. I make all mine for everything I drive. From my Fox Body, to my F250 with a v10. Cut Weld, make bends.

Yeah I've looked into taking welding classes and buying the tools, but it's more of a space issue than anything. With 3 cars in a 3 car garage, there isn't much room for tools as it is.
If I could weld there certainly wouldn't be a SLS mid pipe doubling as a paper weight in my garage.
