Sorry Guys! I have to drop out. I'm not cool with having to remove/change out fans (headshake. My speed is still under factory warrenty, so I don't want to mess with it too much before the warrenty is up. Sucks too that I just got a 2k medical bill today. (notcool)

Sorry again. I was really set on this kit until these two last things.

You shouldn't even mod your car if you want to keep your warranty in the first place. It's very hypocritical to want an upgraded SMIC or Hardpipes if you still want your warranty and especially after you just got hit with a 2K medical bill.

Also, you mentioned you went to CS physically to check out the FMIC and saw no problems.

Yeah I was gonna say...a FMIC would've voided your warranty despite the fans.

No biggie though, I'm in this whether or not the list fills up. The $100 off would've been icing on the cake.

I did go to CS. I only saw the core. It is very nice and will look hot. The pipes were not back from bender so I did not see it actually installed on the MSP. By the way.... Yes, I have a warrenty, and I do not want to spend anymore time I have to taking off my mods if I have to take it in. CAI, BOV, and Hardpipes are quick and easy to put on and take off. By the way.... who said anything about putting on a SMIC right away???? I was just asking if anyone had one and I would entertain the idea. No prices were mentioned.
Chill out guys! Sorry, but the CS FMIC is not for me.

It has been confirmed. Yes, you do have to remove a fan. I PM'ed Derrick at Corksport and in the CS FMIC thread you can see the installed pics and you can see the fan has been removed. You do have to remove your AC aux fan to fit the turbo to IC pipe. The claims is the car is fine without the fan and there has been no AC performance issues. I can understand that in Southwest Washington/Portland, Oregon area were the climate is pretty mild. I don't know if you guys in hotter climates that use your AC will be impacted. Previous threads state you can buy a SPAL for pretty cheap around $100 as an upgrade and that is supposed to fit fine. Good luck!(werd)

This is rather disheartening. I haven't kept up with this thread in a few days, and now I hear that I have to remove my fans to make the kit fit properly?? I live in Houston, TX. Do you know how hot and humid it gets over here?? I don't think that I want to be the guine pig for the hotter climate people to see if it wouldn't/would affect our a/c. So with that in mind, go ahead and take me off the list as well. (headshake Man I really wanted this kit too. :(

I will have our tech look at possible solutions/alternatives since the charge pipe goes right though the location of the A/C fan. I know a slimmer fan would work but let me see what we can come up with if there is a way to do this with or without a new fan.

On my personal car a turbocharged MP3 I am missing the main fan and running the A/C as my main due to the turbo location. When I was in LA last time for a weekend I didn't experience any deficiencies in cooling in the car with the single fan in regards to my A/C. Locally we dont get too many crazy hot/humid days but the few when I have been driving the car the A/C worked just fine.

I should be able to get some information up here on wednesday afternoon in regards to what we come up with.

Derrick

I to am very interested in this , live in Louisiana and hot here is a problem much less the 95 humidty . Really was looking foward to this kit but now I am worried to about the fan removeal!!!!! if there is no way to do this how, about makeing the replacment fans a part of the deal to those who need them . i know there would be a extra charge but if i can get what i need so be it!!!!!!!!!

There is a way to test and see if you notice much of a difference with or without. You can just unplug the A/C fan and give it a shot without it for a day.

We will see what options we have on wednesday but it would be interesting to see what kind of a difference it makes for you people in the southern states.

Derrick

i don't think the AC would be affected that much...but how about the cooling of the engine? that is quite important.

The A/C fan only operates when the A/C is turned on. I think it only kicks on when the A/C is turned on max or the fan is at full speed. I try a few things on wednsday and see.

Derrick

well lol I have to run my ac on max alot here , its hot . The cooling of the car is more what I had in mind though a/c is important guess will have to try unplugging the fan and see the results!!!!

Correction . . . X2 lol, not gonna play with something like that in the south. Maybe later when more tests have been done.

Let me get this out there. When we built the kit initially we had to choose a path for the intercooler pipe to travel based on performance. To keep clearance of the piping away from the exhaust manifold we opted to remove the A/C fan. This was to keep the charge pipe at a distance from the heat. The pipes do get heat from compressing air but keeping the temps down on the charge pipe does affect the effiency of the intercooler system overall.

We had removed quite a few of the A/C fans when doing installation of the AWR headers in non turbo proteges due to the close arrangement of the header to the fan frame and the A/C fans melting. We haven't seen any A/C performance decrease with the A/C fan removed on the cars we did this with.

It was an oversight to not mention this when talking about the kits in the performance section of the forums here. We tried to answer all the questions in regards to cutting for installation and 03spicyspeed had posted up the pictures of the installation which shows the fan missing. There was not any intention to leave anything out.

What we are going to do is honor the GB price of the $90 off the kits for the people who want to kit regardless of how many people buy the kit. The quantity of people did not make the 20 so we will stick with the price for the max which was 17 people and the $90 discount. The promo code for the group buy MSPFMICGB will be good until 8/22 11:59 PM PST.

If the results from possibly adding a slim fan or something else can be worked out anyone is welcome to use the code until it expires if they choose to get back on the GB.

If anyone has any questions please call me at 360 260 2675 or send me a PM.

I am still waiting for information for the slim fan or other which I hope to have tomorrow and I will post up the results we find.

Thank You
Derrick
