Corksport Exhaust 2nd cat delete?

I am thinking about getting a Corksport CBE and I would like to know some things about emisson testing. is there a oxygen sensor around the 2nd cat and if so does not haveing the cat make the CEL come on? Also what are the chances that I will not pass a emisson test? do they really look to see if the 2nd cat is there and could it pass without it? I live in Colorado and they make us take the test every two years.

I don't have the corksport system and my exhaust did not delete the second cat but maybe I can help. Here's what I know.
1. Emissions testing is done by OBD-II. A computer scans your OBD system to locate faults (CEL's).
2. This system does not cause a CEL because the second cat is after the second O2 sensor and there are no other sensors from there to the exhaust tip to tell the computer something is amiss.
3. Unless your emissions tester does a visual inspection of the system, you should be ok.
4. Removing emissions equipment is, in fact, illegal. It is also illegal in Colorado to have an aftermarket exhaust, IIRC. However most cops don't bother you unless its obnoxious. You usually get a fix-it ticket if they decide to stop you.
This is by no means complete and I am no expert...don't sue me if you get thrown in jail, lol.

here in wisconsin, any exhaust modification is also illegal. however, like you said, unless its obvious, the cop won't even notice. and with this car theres even a little more leway because they won't know the difference for what is stock or not. the county I live in doesn't require emissions so I could get away with it, but if you have to pass emissions, then chances are when they hook it up and run it.. they'll notice something wrong... particle, HC and/or NOx counts will be high.. (don't know which cat handles what.. I'd guess the first handles HC though if the O2 is before the 2nd) Even if they don't know what equipment is supposed to be under the car.

(that may or may not have been exactly on topic. general info on the topic though..)

Emissions testing is done by plugging their diagnostic computer into the On Board Diagnostic computer. They don't do the sniffer unless the car is Pre-1996. As long as there are no trouble codes stored in the OBD (and there shouldn't be with this mod) you're golden.

sniff tests i believe depend on state/county

in cali we have to get sniff tested. =(

just remember that some of the advice and experience said here varies to what your state requires.

Why two cats? i don't see the need. Denver does sniff test on a dino. I just thought that I could pass since I still had a cat.

I was told that the 2nd cat was only install so that when the car was cold and the cat was cold it would burn cleaner. I was also told that when the car and cat are warm the 2nd cat is useless and I would pass if they didn't know my car needed to have 2 cats. Is this true or false?

The first cat, mounted as close to the engine as possible, is the pre-cat, which is for cold start emissions so it can "fire up" (get up to optimum operating temperature) as quickly as possible. The second cat is the main cat. Car manufacturers never add parts (especially expensive ones like catalytic converters) for no reason. They nickel and dime their suppliers to death so they can shave every cent off of their cars.

Have you seen how rich our cars run? I can without a doubt see the reason why we would have two cats. The first cat though only helps a little, it's called a precat. The second cat is the one that really burns off all the extra fuel and removes the smoking issues.

To also answer your question, the second cat you could consider the main cat. You could pass emissions with a test pipe because you still have the precat and it seems to do a pretty good job cleaning up, not as good as the second though, so you have it the otherway around.

I live in delaware but im goin to remove my second cat ive already removed the resionator it freed the exhaust up some just driving it it feels as if the car breaths better idk could be all in the mind...I soon will have my second cat deleted along with no resionator but i will still have the stock muffler but that will be replace soon too....(yippy)

i have corksport exhaust and header and have no cats or resonators. You can smell the carbon sometimes.
