copper or iridium

i'm never gonna figure out which plugs to use

LOL... yeah it's like religion and politics.. no matter who you talk to you'll get a different opinion.

Unless you are building a track monster, "extended reach" plugs are just fine. In my tests (just hard driving, no track) they put out more power than the BKR. They are OEM after all! So is fine wire. There is a big difference between track applications and street applications, they are two worlds apart! :)

PS: And... if you really want the best available plug, go silver!

Most of my miles and hours are on the street... I'm just relaying the experience I and some of my customers have had with fine wire and extended reach plugs. I'm also relaying what a detonation specific system measured/detected. To me, any risk of increased detonation... ESPECIALLY on stock rods is not worth it.

Well, if your warranty has expired, I can understand... If I blow my engine b/c I'm using OEM-spec plugs (if that ever happens) Mazda will have to put a new one in! ;)

My denso IK22s seem to idle and run smoother than the copper NGKs I bought. From what I got from your statement Steve, the Iridiums work well until you have problems that cause them to foul. I would have to agree with you if tuning a car from scratch (like with a standalone), but I like the iridium plugs. You might be right about the bang for the buck thing. I'm not sure the gain is worth the price.

I did find smoother idles with extended reaches, but had worse idle with fine wire platinums... I've never used iridiums myself, but the construction of the plug is more what I was criticizing than the material... but yep, you are following me exactly right... they work fine until you have any kind of problem.. they aren't as "robust" as the copper's when engine conditions get adverse...

I tried the iridiums, the didn't take long to foul, and they don't have much areaon the electrode.

turf, what BKR plugs are you using,I am gonna run ZFR plugs for break in,then at 8PSI for a while, then tkae the boost up to 12,15,18 psi with the BKR.I will probaly go colder past 18 PSI

you think the sixes will be ok for this?

They should be ok... but if you start whiting them bad I'd get to the 7's... you can run the 7's from the start and I'd just switch to the 6's only if you are having problems with them getting carboned up or harsh starts.

Okay, now I'm getting confused with all of these brands and types, etc......can someone just give those of us with some "light" mods (intake, exhaust, 8-10psi), a few different plug options.... sounds like we may want to run a step colder, but it sounds like just about everyone has had relitively good results with a wide range of plugs.... (shrug)

I have used both iridiums in bkr7 and zfr6. ZFR6 is better for mild bolt ons. 12 or less psi daily driving. BKR7 for higher boost 12+ psi. Iridiums run great on all of the DFW MSPs that have them installed. Mazdaspeed75 checks his regularly and he can say they work great as well.
Yea been running for awhile now. Seem to be great Got aliitle white in the grounding strap when we first started pulling 15 degrees of timming but all seems to be fine Just checked them the other day and they look great No signs of anything so for and runs just as good as the day we installed them . Ive ran stock, bkr pzfs these seems to be the best so far. I may go a step colder for higher boost apps. Come on Sam i need more fuel .
