Coolant *OVERFLOWING*

Okay, this has happened twice now. I just opened my hood to go at installing JoeP's MBC and noticed a boiling bubbling type sound in one of the radiator hoses. I look over to the coolant resivoir and it's literally overflowing with coolant.

I just drove the car for probably 30 miles in 98 degree heat. No racing, straight driving with max speed of 80mph. Any ideas? SpicyMSP couldn't tell me and the dealership is closed.

Normal... I turned the car back on and the coolant slowly came back down to the regular level.. I then turned the car back off and it didn't happen.. WTF

joo got a block somehweres, or the car is just REALLY REALLY overheating. my bet is on a a block somewhere, This can include inside your engine block, in the cooling jackets.

Mine does that too. 3 or 4 times now. Just another "characteristic of the msp"

The car runs way to hot here in NM. I'm gonna try ION fmic and a normal 2L protege radiator. I think that will cool her off.

yeah check your thermostat switch. btw, did you notice if your fan was running at idle? could be an indication of a thermostat problem.

Not sure why your car should do something like this, but here's my two cents on trying to keep it from happening again:

If you're always in hot areas, why not use more water than anti-freeze, like a 60/40 mix, and some Redline Water Wetter? Not extreme, but it might do the trick.

If that doesn't help, does anyone know of a mazda radiator cap that would be slightly higher pressure? We used to use 300ZX radiator caps on our SR20DEs or DETs in Sentra SE-Rs and G20s. It helped cope with advanced timing, the lack of EGR and the extra heat of turbos...

complain

I need to be more polite to people. I do consider this my first warning, if I am warned again the mods will spank my b**** ass with the mod stick.

Anyway, thanks for the suggestions. Car's going to the dealer on Monday to get the Kenwood HU/dash surround piece replaced. I'll talk to them about it since it's happened again.

redline has water wetter. use couple cap fulls of that, 15% coolant or something like that, and DISTILLED water. look @ our rads and look @ any other protege. tell me what's the matter when you find see what i'm talking about.

plus our lovely oil and water cooled ball bearing turbos have to use the same boiling hot water from our extra small rad. and our boiling hot oil from our extra small qty. of oil/oil pan.

Coolant overlow is normal. Don't worry about it!!! That's what it's designed for!! Now about the higher pressure radiator cap, I have the Mazdaspeed radiator cap that is rated at 1.3 bar. I also have the Mazdaspeed lower temp thermostat. These may be hard to come by due to Mazda not shipping Mazdaspeed parts from Japan anymore because they are developing thier own here in the US. I had to wait for months before my thermostat came from Japan via Corksport.

Yeah, I plan on talking to AWR Racing about an aluminum race radiator.:D

Coolant overflowing through the closed resivoir and onto the engine bay paint, out of the car is normal? Not in any other car I've driven.
