Convert 2007 MS3 cartridge oil filter to 2010 MS3 spin on oil filter

Hi,

I hate the cartridge type oil filter on my MS3. And for some reason the oil filter access hole on the skid tray is not at all lined up with the center of the cartridge oil filter. Thus, I remove the skid plate for every oil change. Dumb.

Has anyone converted the 2007 cartridge to the 2010 MS3 spin on oil filter set up? And if so, does the access hole in the skid plate better line up with the center of the spin on filter? Hopefully no need to remove the skid plate during a spin on filter removal.

What parts are needed for this conversion?

There is a conversion kit for this. There are many members who have made the switch over to a spin-on filter. However, the skid plate hole won't match up any better after you make the switch. Mazda basically used the Mazda3 skid plate for the MS3s prior to the 2010 MS3s coming out. You'll still have to remove the skid plate...or you can mod the existing one by making the hole larger.

Check with Jason at Online Mazda Parts for the kit. His e-mail is mazdapart@gmail.com or you can call him at 704.563.1510 EXT 141.

Or this - CLICKY

*Make sure you get the one for the 2.3L Turbo with the oil cooler connection.

Easy conversion and combined with a Fumoto Valve make oil changes "cave-man easy". I cut out the belly pan on mine, but that was to accommodate the larger truck filter.

people have been doing it for years. i converted mine back in 06. lol. when i did it, the parts from mazda were only $27 bux even

I converted and cut out a bigger hole so I don't have to remove the plate everytime. I use a much larger filter from the Mazda pick up. There are many different filters that will work with the conversion kit. I chose the 3600 because it's large and very common/cheaper.

ive been using the corvette ZR1 oil filter on my conversion. its insanely large. but kinda hard to find part #'s for sometimes. most only list the filter for the reg corvette, but not the ZR1.
