Nothing has changed when purchasing used cars, my friend. Most reputable dealers may tell you the true condition of the car (if they know). Some wont.You may even be shown incomplete or bogus reports about the car's condition.
Spend a few extra bucks and take your mechanic with you. Some sellers may even let you drive it for a few hours to see if anything develops (noises, leaks, etc).
If taking your mechanic with you is not an option, at least drive it to a repair shop, have them put it on the lift and examine the underbody yourself.
