Hi, I want to replace my current ride and Mazda 3 has caught my eye. What can you tell me about 07-09 Mazda 3, e.g. what are the common problems, what mileage is OK for a used car, maintenance costs. Any advise is appreciated.

I have an 07 mazda 3 Hatchback. Bought it at 43,000 only problems.
1. Bubble in my cooling lines. got that fixed.
Thats it.

I am at 64,xxx right now, lowered, no problems at all.

My wife has an '09 3 i Touring with around 60k miles and has no problems whatsoever. Just basic maintenance, oil changes, and her brakes are going to need to be done soon, etc.

Thanks Will and xMazdax, glad to know that it's a trouble-free car. I wonder what are the common problems? I've read somewhere about engine mounts is this common? which engine is better the 2.0L or 2.3L? What options are must have?

I bought my 2009 Mazda 3 iTouring new, taken it to the snow, dirt mountains for camping, high elevations, trips to Vegas and Utah and have had ZERO problems with anything mechanical. I seriously have never felt so safe and comfortable in my car. I'm @ 65,000 miles

The following is only in relation to me and my Mazda,:
Maintance is typical, I do my oil change every 3-5,000 miles and tire rotation depending on where I have driven too.
Stock brakes sucked, they needed replacing for me @30,000 miles, which is weird since a lot of my miles are freeway/highway
Stock tires were aweful, replaced those @ 20,000..Goodyear tires have never been good to me so I put Kuhmos (sp?) and they are still going 45,000 miles later :)
I still don't need to do any fluid replacing or tune-up.
My alignment has always remained very good.

I don't know what else to say.

i have a 2008 3i sport. bought brand new with 13 miles and is now around 75,000 miles i've only had to change front brakes once and tires once. I live in utah, been on many road trips (Arizona, Nevada, Wyoming, Colorado, California). i have blown a fuel injector but i blame that on my heavy foot :p

If you plan to mod your car and you want to turbo it i would recommend a 2.3L.. it will be a little easier and cheaper then the 2.0L... i don't know about gas mileage on the 2.3 i believe it is the same. but the best i got in my car (babying it everywhere) was 44mpg.

There is my 2 cents
