Connector question

What connector is this?

Reason I ask is I am making a guess it is for the controls for the nav system in GT MS3 models. I have a sport model so I do not have that obviously.

If so is it possible to install a nav system off a GT model in a sport model if the console components were also swapped. Is the wiring already there?

I was wondering the same thing, but also figured that must the gps panel. In the factory manual it shows a connector connecting in the back of the panel but I think its not long enough to go directly into the piece so maybe its going to another connector and then to the navigation controls?

I asked this question a while back. that connector is for the nav controls. I too was wondering if i could just install the nav out of the GT but never really got an answer. Im not sure how it all really hooks up though. i guess im not much help lol.

Well from the looks of other pictures and stuff in the service manual, we have the wires there that go to the nav unit from the controls, but we don't have the wires that go to the lcd unit from the nav unit (in the glove box).

I am sure you would be able to install it all but it would be pretty expensive. The little nav controller is 283 bucks from onlinemazdaparts.com, can't find of the real stuff on there though but I would imagine its pretty expensive. The install discs alone for the navigation updates are expensive.

I would say there are other ways to get navigation and have it installed in a neat way.

Edit found it, its 2700 bucks for the display, 3,536.08 for the control unit, about 200 bucks for the brackets, and 90 bucks for the gps antenna (atleast thats somewhat cheap)

could get from a wrecked one/ salvage? If you could get the moldings and the wiring off a used one and did it yourself probably wouldn't be as expensive as if you bought a GT off the floor... *scratches head*?

Even if you went with something from a salvage yard, I would think you could go aftermarket in-dash (and/or pop-up LCD) for not much more $$$, and have a brand new system with a warranty, and probably MUCH cheaper map/software updates down the road. Besides, you'd get so many more features & options with most decent aftermarket systems, too.

There is also this option, which really has my interest... Anyone know if you lose the Trip computer or the panel information if you do this?

yea it replaces the cd player, but I was wondering if the information sent to the display about will still be the same as before.

Basically I don't know if the info displayed on the display above it is fully controlled by the cd player. I also thought I saw a cd player in the for sale section with the lcd screen attached to it? can't find it now but maybe i was wrong.

On that site and the video thats on there it says its completely plug and play, even with the steering wheel controls.
