I have the mazda part readt to install BUT the connector on the car is "male" and the harness part straight from Mazda is also "male", is there something im missing here? I found this old How-to on the site and I see he also has 2 males but I've yet to get a reply:

...Any help out there?

Thanks,

I don't think that other link shows a trailer harness with a male connector as well. If you look closely you'll see that the white part has a 'ridge' that the harness from the car clips over. I did that install from that DIY on my 2012 and it was just a plug and play with no additional parts needed. I am sorry that I don't know what the story is in your situation but I'm pretty sure something changed on that new wiring harness. What is the part number on the one you have? I cannot look up the part number I did purchase at the moment but I'll do that this evening if you think that will help. I'm pretty sure it's listed in that other DIY though.

Do the wire colors match up? If so, i wouldnt take anything to just maker a jumper harness between the two male plugs using nothing more then heavy gauge wire with some male electrical terminals crimped in place.

I notice you have a Touring model. Is it FWD? If so it may not have the trailer-tow prep package, which I think is standard on all AWD and Grand Touring models.
The Mazda Accessories website mentions needing a Jumper Harness if so (and gives you a vin code/ radiator code to compare to):

Based on your picture, you have the second one down in the list, which is for CX-9's with the 2000 lb towing capacity (i.e. no tow-prep package). As such it seems you need the jumper 0000-8E-N04. Not sure if the jumper harness mazda lists for 20 bucks is as simple as @moxidechild's suggestion above, but I wouldn't put it past a manufacturer to charge a lot for something so simple.

Or if your's does have the tow prep package, I think you have the wrong harness.

Thanks for the help so far!

My CX-9 is a FWD w/out the tow prep package.

I think you're right voldsom, after doing some more research I think the next step is buying a jumper harness, I found one for $11 on amazon.

Does anyone know of a instruction manual for the installation? A guy sent me a link for a 2009 model BUT some stuff has changed between then and 2013. I ordered my part for Mazda Parts Unlimited but it didn't include paperwork or a fuse.

etrailer.com has a bunch of pictures and an install video for the HiddenHitch model (but all the receiver hitches, Reese, HiddenHitch, Curt, MazdaOEM are the same essentially). Main product page:

also, keep in mind, the FWD models are only rated for 2000 lb towing capacity. Tongue weight is usually a limiting factor as well. I've heard it's typically 10% of the towing cap, but 200# seems kinda low. Another method would be the Mazda OEM is a Class II hitch, which are rated at 300/3000 (tongue/towing), so 300# may be the number to follow.

I'm not a towing expert by any means, but just bringing it up as a suggestion to research :)

Thanks guys, I successfully installed the kit. I haven't had a chance to tow anything but I think everything will perform properly...if not, I'll be back on here in a few days lol
