Okay, I don't know what happened, but my computer has been messing up bad since yesterday....
I've got a pop-up blocker that works very well, but I keep getting some stuff that is automatically installing itself on my computer, and I think that's giving me all these new pop-ups. My comp. is running hella slow because of whatever happened yesterday, and just a bunch of crazy s*** keeps happening. I try to double click on the IE button to open my homepage, and it would open my internet options instead...When I finally get it open, it changed my homepage to some bulls*** site. I try to type in "www" and it closes IE. Luckily I got here, so I need some help quick.
Oh and yesterday, my printer icon come up saying something was trying to print from my computer. The problem is, my printer isn't even plugged in!! I have Ad-aware, and I ran that, cleaned up those files, ran disk defragmentor, and deleted any other files that I didn't use/recognize. What else can I do?

Obviously a new computer is needed, but I don't have the funds for a new one right now. As far as reformatting goes, is there any way to keep all the programs and videos I want, without having to start over from scratch? I've just got a lot of stuff that I don't want to have to reinstall/redownload...

Sure your Shift/Alt/Ctrl keys arent suck? Sounds like some of the symptoms you would get from one of those keys being stuck. Bang the **** out of your keyboard, if it doesnt fix it at least it will be fun.

Reformat is the only clean way to do it.
yep, that's the sure way to do it.
as for Ad-Aware.....it sux donkey balls.

get Zone Alarm Pro instead.
combined with Norton Antivirus 2004 u'll never see popups again.

also make sure u do all the critical updates for windows.

go to a computer store, and buy a 30 gig harddrive for $40 (they are that cheap now).
install it into your comp, then transfer all the files u need to the new hard drive.
format the old drive, and install fresh copy of windows on it.
u now have 2 drives, one with windows and programs installed, one with all of your vodeos/music/documents.
so now if anything goes wrong in the future, u can just format the old hard drive and keep all your files.

Try switching to a different browser. I have recently changed over to using Mozilla Fire Fox, even though it is not 100% Pop up free, it sure is better than Windows Explorer. I still use panicwares popup stopper to get the rest out. Even when I used Windows Explorer I can have 3 different popup stoppers on and they still come. I especially love it when popups appear where they shouldn't be at all, like at Gamespot.com where I'm sure the webmasters did not intend for popup ads to be showing in a picture of a game but gets hijacked by an add for eating your vitamins.

Okay, I think I have a virus on my computer...I'm at my girlfriends house because my internet isn't even working...I've got Comcast coming on Wednesday to fix my modem, but if it's a virus that caused it to crash, then I'll have to pay a service charge which I obviously don't want to do. I'm gonna go to Best Buy ort something to price some hard drives, more memory, ans a new copy of Windows XP, along with whatever else I might need. It may end up being cheaper/easier for me to just buy a new computer. Thanks for your guys' help, and I'll be back online as soon as possible:)

I'm back with a new computer:). I got a Compaq...
Here's the specs:
-AMD Athlon XP processor @ 2.16GHz(old computer was 533MHz)
-512mb RAM(old was 196 or something)
-160GB HD(old was only 40GB)
-DVD+RW/CD-RW
-built in 9-in-1 memory card reader
I also got a new battery back-up/surge protector and a JumpDrive memory stick to help me transfer all my old data.

I know this isn't the best/fastest computer available, but compared to my old computer, this thing is just awsome
(nana)
Thanks to all you who tried to help me. After I transfer all my data, I'll reformat the old computer and see if I can get any use out of it.

yeah reformat, trust me you will not regret it, once you reformat, update windows imediatly, then throw on NAV, Spybot, Adaware

Okay, so can someone tell me how to format my old computer?? I tried doing a system restore, and it wouldn't let me(dunno) It's running windows XP....
I've already removed the files I wanted, so I don't have to save what is left. I just want to dump it all.

Format Hard Drive

You have to boot with Windows Xp Cd!
It will ask to boot from cd rom, Press any Key,
After you pass MS Agreement, it will ask you if you want
to repair installation or want to make new install, make new install
and then will ask you to format the partition C:\ . It will ask you to perform
Quick FAT32 or Full FAT32, Quick NTFS or FUll NTFS.
Select Quick NTFS, when operation completes it will start the copy installation
files.

PS:
You have to go to the BIOS to select to Boot from cd rom!

actually, although it's too late, if you suspected you had a virus on the drive, you should have done a GWScan and done a fulll NTFS format. But that's just my .02

That's cool...I'm happy with the new computer:) One thing maybe you can answer...I bought Norton anti-virus for my new computer. Since it is registered to me, can I use it on my second computer too? Or would I have to purchase a second copy of the program?
