Computer Cases

I am in the process of rebuilding my computer and i am wanting a kick ass case, so if anybody knows where to get some cool cases let me know.

I have the Lian-Li PCV2000B and the Antec P160 - both are very nice, the Antec more so for appearance, but the Lian-Li is by far the best case I have ever seen or owned.

I also have a LianLi, and can vouch for them being very nice.. one of the best I've ever used... but the BEST case I ever used was the un-case.

only did it for a while while waiting on a new case but now I wish I had another set of components to build it again.

basically everything was suspended in a pyramid shape, hung from the ceiling. no case + a couple suspended fans = great cooling.

kinda looked crazy, but hey, it worked. be creative.

my next computer will probably get the stealth treatment, totally integrated into my computer desk.

My Case is a Diablo-Tek with lighted Case fan, blue cold cathode kit and a digital CPU and HDD display

that's a very pretty case you have

I prefer what's on the inside - I'm not one for lights - I'd rather have stable rails for my raid array (six WD 250's in RAID5+1)

antec p160 is one of the nicest cases I've worked on, and owned. I like a case that is nice to work with since I'm a tech, and something that is quiet. I the glowing transformer look of some cases is not for me either.

Lian li are very nice, but with the antec being what it is for the price, i couldn't recommend getting a pricey lian li over it.

I've got a Lian-Li PC-71 server case with window and I love it.

The case is AMAZINGLY well constructed and in my experiences, the quality has not been and probably will not be surpassed. It's exceptionally large for a home system, and because of that, I had to end up hiding it in my closet since it wouldn't fit under the desk. However, it *is* a server case, not an end user case. I did understand that before I bought it, though.

Regardless, even if you're looking for something smaller, which I'd suggest, I'd still look for a Lian-Li product. I've used other cases for installs and the difference is night and day.

When looking around for one, mentally establish what you want the case to ultimately end up as. If you're a geek or an "e-ricer" and want a show case, find one with windows, handles, or whatever you want. If you want a small LAN case, get just that, a mini case. If you want to look cool but not worry with installing your own cold cathodes or LEDs, get a prebuilt case.

If you're a geek and constantly change accessories, look at how easy it will be to drop new drives or devices in or take them out.

If you want to run a RAID array or have multiple drives (eg: more than 2 hdds and 2 5.25" devices), look for one with the proper amount of bays available. I personally have 4xWD120GB HDDs running RAID 0+1, a CD-ROM, CD-RW, DVD+R, Digital Doc 5 and a fan controller, so I definately needed the extra space.

If you're a USB fanatic, look for one with front USB ports.

If you're an overclocker, look for one with ample space for fans or a cooling system and the proper vens for heat.

If you're a gamer, get a small case you can take to a friend's for a lan party.

If you can't stay in one place longer than six months, again get a small case.

Also take in to consideration the material it's made from. Do you want plastic, aluminum, steel, carbon fiber (har har), or what? How long do you want it to last? Do you want people to be in awe over it? Do you just wsant a plain, no-frills "git r done" kinda box?

There are an EXTREME number of cases available now that PCmodding has become a "sport", of sorts. I've seen anything from the basic beige blah case to a female upper body with the connections in the back.

Just depends on how far you wanna go and your "end use"

But yeah, that's a cute little box you've got there.

Wherever you go, DO NOT go to colorcases.com. They screwed me over royally a few years ago when I tried to buy a case from them.

the big box case they have rules - I think they call it the UFO, I was considering it before I got the Lian-Li

Lian Li or ThermalTake Tsunami cases are the best (all aluminum cases are generally good)
