Compressor surge??

So I get this bucking feeling when I am driving, but only when I am at low boost maybe 2-5 psi. It seems to do this "bucking" motion during acceleration or when I begin to let off the gas. So I dunno if this is normal see my sig for mods. Maybe its a matter of tuning this problem out, which I will be getting a professional tune soon. Any input would be appreciated.

I have blue spring no spacers... I used this when I had less mods and I was not getting this "bucking" motion. My forge has been functioning fine as well so do you think i need to lube the bpv itself or anything??

Maybe, I drive around the fact that I have the RED spring installed, by just using the old bad 1980s turbo car technique of not dropping the throttle fully on shifts and getting on the gas a touch before the clutch engages. Works like a charm.

Changing flow mods can change how the BPV feels, too.

Yeah it's wierd I guess I will switch the spring to yellow with a shim or two and see how it goes. Maybe it's a matter of time to I drove the car today and it didn't have that bucking motion as bad, but I don't really know what the cause is or if it is just how the car is going to feel. I haven't had any spikes or creep so I am happy with that.

The forge is known for being really 'snappy' between shifts. Great for throttle response and instant boost getting into the next gear, but can be a little harsh on those part-throttle low boost shifts.

Lastly, "compressor surge" is an actual problem, not what you are experiencing here. You'd never see compressor surge at 2-5 psi.

Compressor surge is when you push a turbo too hard and cross the "surge line". This means the turbo can no longer continue its compressive duties due to the forces induced by the compressed air behind it. A violent backwash of compressed air through the compressor side ensues, stressing the turbo's rotating assembly incredibly. This is inevitably fatal for the turbo involved, sooner or later.

Yes. Copy and paste what Darth said. "compressor surge" or any hooting type noise is not true compressor surge at such low levels of boost. It really is a problem when you push full boost and hear that nasty chattering noise that is undeniably compressor surge. At a low boost, your BPV is not being kicked open fast enough and you hear a hint of that hooting noise, but it's not true compressor surge. Many SSQV owners experience this because of the way the SSQV opens. Under low boost, the preliminary, smaller opening pops open first only letting a fairly small amount of boost through, thus creating that 'surge' sound for a quick second. The SSQV is actually letting out enough boost to ensure that the compressor is not backspinning and the pressure is fairly equalized in both the cold pipe/compressor and the vented side of the bov. This keeps some pressure in the system and is good for 'instant boost' when you get back on the throttle.

At least I think that is all right... I'm kind of just bull-shitting here. Lazy Sunday, you know?

I've seen it bad enough to bend compressor blades backwards, break them off completely or snap the shaft of the turbo like a dry twig. It's not to be fiddled with if it's really happening. It ain't pretty and it often takes out the engine with it when it happens, from FOD.
