that car will never see the states - so for us theres no competition to be had from ford.

sexy little focus though. I would actually buy one given the right funds...

That would probably be a smart move for Ford in terms of getting the younger crowds back into their showrooms, but let's be honest. This is Ford we're talking about. They aren't even selling the newest platform base focus here. Instead, the U.S. is getting a re-skinned version of the current platform (protest) . Ford probably thinks that an awd 300 hp hatch would cut into sales of their precious mustang. I know that Ford has a stake in Mazda, but at least mazda brings over some desirable vehicles that are affordable and fun to drive...

Ford does have a stake in Mazda, but from what the service man told me, Ford doesnt really do a whole lot with Mazda. There is not a whole of Ford input into Mazda cars.

And let's keep it that way :)

There will be a good focus coming soon....if its not already out, don't care to much for ford cars....like 200+ hp FWD.

you would be supprised, most electronics , have ford emblems on them in the new mazdas, except the 3... from what my brother has told me.

The 3 and the Volvo S40 share the same chassis, right? And Volvo is in cahoots with Ford, right? OMG, my MS3 is a dirtly little *****!

Share the same chassis? Yes. In cohoots? Dunno. But the Volvo C30 is suhweetness!

The 2008 Focus's arent even gonna have a hatch version in the states. Talk about bad, cause the coupes look REALLY nice compared to the current one

They definitely have their heads up their collective asses in the compact market, but I'm fairly happy with my purchase.

As a company, they're hemorraging money though.

I don't remember if it was on this forum or not, but there was talk of Acura releasing turbo-charged version of the TSX to compete with the MS3. The new car would essentially replace the RSX, which is now out of production, and it would be a 2 door.

Honda doesn't make many turbo-charged engines except for the Acura RDX, which has 240 hp. This is right in the MS3's range if you throw in an intercooler. A two door TSX would look sick by the way.

I think this would be Honda's best bet, because even the most avid Honda fan has to realize that the MS3 is a way better deal than both the Civic Si and RSX Type-S. There's really nothing close buck for buck.

What do you guys think?

By the way, what magazine was that taken from?

There's no need to do that, unless the next generation Mazda 3 comes in regular production with that kind of power. As of now, it's a limited model for two years. If the MS3 took off enough, and the next generation 3 came with this kind of power and performance, and it became a high volume selling trim level, then Honda would be smart to challenge them, because they are far more popular of a company, and could really beat out Mazda if they wanted to IMO, because the Civic name sells. It doesn't even matter if the Civic isn't better. It will always outsell the Mazda 3 in every trim.

Honda/Acura could easily come out with something to match/top the MS3 and send Mazda back reeling for something better, but they'd only do it if the car was hurting their sales, and it financially was a smart move. As of now, Mazda is really no competition for Honda, and the Speed 3 is probably not even remotely close to sales of their SI Coupe, and never will be. They could probably slap the N/A S2000 engine (237hp) in a new Acura RSX, which would be more then capable of competing. Much lighter car, so it would outhandle a Speed 3, and be just as fast. It probably would be more popular too. With the capital that Honda has, I'd like to see them come out with something special.

We all know they are more then capable, but if it's not financially smart, they won't do it. That's why they are so successful, and far far bigger of a company then Mazda. :)

^^ in other countries the 3 is getting closer to over taking the civic.. Canada is a good example. Read an article just the other day on another form that the Mazda 3 is only a little bit behind the civic...and that is with a three year old body style.

But over all, the Honda name will still draw more people.

actually ford owns 33% of mazda so by japanese law the OWn all..they make all major decisions(sp)

That law is set to change shortly. In Japan no one company can can take over an entire company. So thats not entirely true. I wouldn't be suprised if Ford takes it all over in the next few years when that law changes though.

What alot of people don't know is that Toyota also owns 33% of Subaru....so don't be suprised when Toyota's start packing some serious AWD....cause when that law changes they are set to take over Subaru as well.
