Column Mounted Guage Pod!

Hey there guys, coming from a MKV GTI there was a company that had made a column mounted boost guage pod that was a slide and fit item. I was looking for options out there but all I could seem to find was the upper dash with the 3 pods (I dont want that many guages), A-pillar and the random places that some of the more creative one in the group have come up with.

Anyhow, I called the company that I had bought the GTI boost guage column from http://www.newsouthperformance.com/Mk5pod.htm and expressed my dillema. He was very nice and spent atleast 30 minutes with me on the phone asking me questions about placement and location since the GTI's layout was similar, the location of the guage woould be switched to the opposite side but if anyone would like to chime in with some helpful opinions I think we would get a great looking piece with great functionality and a competative price and an alternative to all of the linear options out there.

Here is what the gti pod looked like, I believe the housing would be a standard 52mm. http://www.newsouthperformance.com/Mk5pod.htm

I too have switched over from a VW and am little disappointed in the lack of "quality" 3/ms3 specific gauge pod solutions. I ran these pods in the past and they look factory which is what I want. So, I would definitely be interested in purchasing one if they were made available.

i am not buying a mount, iam using dobuel sided sticky tape and have my boost gauge mounted to the right of my column..im going to get a afr gauge and mount it on the left with the same tape...

i don't have any experience with steering column-mounted gauge pods, but make sure you get a decent one, because i imagine that a cheap one could rattle like dry bones and drive you CRAZY! (bang)

yea but 100 plus for a mount? thats pricey. the single pod mount looks nice but theres no point in just a single pod steering mount

oh ya, it would be a big waste to spend a load on the pod. the most important part is simply knowing what you're getting into...with that said, i just did the velcro thing and stuck it one like so...:D

The whole point of a single mount pod is for those who want to retain a somewhat stock appearance and dont want numerous guages cluttering up the cabin.

This of course is an alternative to using the standard drill in or cheap looking double sided take option.

THis company makes a quality product and I can attest to the fact that in my MKV GTI it fit like a glove and worked well. I probably would only get the pod and not the guage since I want a aem tru boost guage.

PS: I traded in my GTI and the dealer thought the parts were completely stock, matter of fact everyone that got into the car thought the column and boost guage were completely stock.

Having come over from the MKIV world, I've heard of these guys before. If they're interested in making a pod, I'd be in for one.

Cool, this is basically all up to us in the this community. Since no other companies are taking the time to develope parts for our cars due to its short production run I commend New South for showing interest.

We can basically get this part tailor made to how we would like if the enough demand is there.

i'd get that thing in a heartbeat. i simply need an ideal spot for a boost gauge....ONE gauge, and something that looks stock and is in an ideal location for easy reference.

Sorry to ask a seemingly dumb question, but are they making a dual steering column pod?

As of now I would say no, I am not a spokes person for Newsouth, just a previously happy customer. Currently there just seems to be some demand for a single guage pod namely for boost. Those looking for multiple guages may like the dash option currently out there but it offers three spots to fill.

I agree, I only need 1 guage. I considered the 3 guage option but after seeing how similar to the cock pit of a 727 it was I decided against it and hence started looking for options. I even considered making a single unit myself for the top dash but the time and effort needed would not be cost effective for my skill level.

soooo any word on that single gauge column pod? just installed the newsouth one on my friends MKV last night and it looks stock. i'd want to get one if they make it for the speed3.

I was going to make one for the SPeed 3....But there is not enough room on the Column to utilize the Style of pod like this unfortunately.

If you measure the typical depth of the gauge vs. the depth are of you upper column piece..you will see where the issue arrises.
