I humbly seek the wisdom of the forum....

I'm a noob when it comes to any mod on the mazda and want to do things right. I would really like to spruce up my engine bay and was thinking some color would help. Colored hoses? Hose Techniques? Plastic covers? I don't even know where to begin. Did some searching and viewed some other Pro's and P5's work but want to bring some life to the engine bay of my Speed.

My goal is a clean look that will not run the risk of harming performance (hose melting, bad friction, etc...).

Who has undertaken this project and what is recommended.

Thx for all non-flaming input!

i think hose technique has the cleanest design I've seen. I plan to get it some day. There are qute a few guys on here that have them installed. How about it? Anyone had a melting problem?

Another clean and simple way to spice up the engine bay is to simply paint the valve cover and leave the rest. Someone here post picks please

Thanks for posting pics MP5 Raycer! Considering my ride is black I was thinking red also. I like the look.

Those look like they are all covers and not actual hoses am I right about that? How good does it look in person compared to actual colored hoses? That would be an easy way to add life under the hood and not risk harming any function.

i think that there is way too much color under your hood. just my opinion but it looks to messy like a jungle under there. i like to hide as many wires as possible and just replace the hoses with a little bit of color. and a lot of them look best if you just cover them with black or something that doesnt bring an eye sore...

thanks for the props and if you want them they are all yours i am removing them soon .. they are covers and i do feel that replacing the vacum lines and return lines ect with the silicone ones would deffiatly look cleaner and more neat like another person mention the hose Technics are by far the best i have seen but i did mine this way and in the amount i did it in because i cant stand to see the factory black rubber hosings and i felt if I covered it enough vs just some here and there it would look better. also i am removing them since my entire color scheme has changed ..i am having my Mp5's nose, splashed out in the MSP spicey orange and then the insides will be done in Katskinz black and orange leather and i will be going with orange accents so anyone who wants this stuff its theres ..i would only ask for the shipping cost to be paid and that would be a small amount for sure ..

Thanks MP5 Raycer! I may just take you up on that. Aren't covers relatively cheap at any auto parts store? I will probably pay to have yours shipped and save the few bucks just to see if I like the way it looks. Then if I don't when it's all said and done...well no loss. How much to you pay for covers?

MP5 Raycer - I will PM you when I get more info together.

i dunno, to me if you want your car to be clean then you wouldn't go throwing all that color in the engine. for me:

clean = simple, subtle.

but yeah, my friend has the tubes that cover the wiring and they never melted or anything. If you want some red colored things that do stuff you can invest in some thicker diameter spark plug wires.

Good point Kid. However, I probably wouldn't go bezerk with color. Just enough to set it off. To me the engine bay really leaves alot to be desired.

It seems clear from everyone that there is really nothing to fear in harming hoses so that's great. Now I just have to choose a product. The question becomes replacing the hoses or covering them?

Hose Techniques are pricey considering I don't really need new hoses on a 40 day old speed. Covers are very cheap but do they look it? I really don't know since I've only seem them on the net.

yeah i forgot to mention that part . this stuff does not really come in direct contact of anything that would melt it and the silicone hoses are created to withstand that type of engine heat

The Magnecor wires are listed for everything but the MSP....Anyone see a reason why not to use them on the MSP? It doesn't seem worth spending $77 for plug wires to replace a pair that are bran spankin' new.

Don't get the hose techniques, ... the amount you end up replacing is FAR from worth the $55 you pay, ....

I agree! Nothing worse than getting hosed on prise! (sorry couldn't resist).

However, it is a good amount of color for the engine bay. Not to much...not too little. If you were actually replacing them after several years of hard use it would seem worth it to upgrade to the quality hose.

Maybe shell out for the Hose techniques kit and get a few hose covers for some of the fatter hoses and try to get a comprimised balance between black and red under the hood?

That's the project I think.....

cool! i looked at some motegis and was going to get those exact wheels but when i looked, they didnt have 18"s in gunmetal.
i guess they do now
