Cold Weather Related Problems

I own a '06 Mazdaspeed6 and live near Pittsburgh, PA. It gets cold here in the winter and this will be the first winter will have my mazda. I have noticed that when the temp gets below maybe 35 degrees I have some issues with my car. Prehaps they are unrelated but they are both induced by the cold weather. First when I start my car it will stall out after a few secs. Sometimes it stalls 2-3 times. Once I get it started I will let it warm up for 5 mins then when I going I will expierience a power loss in the engine just before 3000 rpm and the car wont accelerate at all. This will happen in any gear and will last for 5-10 mins when im on the road. Only solution is to down shift. Does the car really need to warm up for a long time? Thanks for any suggestion/solutions up that are given.

I haven't noticed mine doing anything like that in the cold, and we've had some below-zero days lately. Actually, mine seems to warm up pretty quick.

I always let mine warm up completely before I drive. I live in MN and its been rather cold here and I haven't experienced any problems. I have notice that my shifter is rather stiff but that's about it.

There's definitley something up with your car, but I can't think of anything that would only rear it's ugly head when it's cold. Try calling up a dealer or 2 and see what they say (likely "bring it in" lol).

No problems here other than the "normal" hesitation these cars have. Mine warms up fairly quickly, as well.

Agreed mine warms up pretty quick when I start to drive it, but I will say that I watched my coolant temp yesterday on my Aeroforce and it does take a while for it to get up to the 195 or so I'm used to seeing. I'm not pushing the car until I see close to that as then I'll know the engine is up to operating temp.

i too am from pittsburgh and don't have any of those problems when starting. i'd take it to the dealer.

Only thing i experience on cold mornings is the engine seems to have a "clickier" sound!

It's -5C here in the Toronto area and FYI the needle gets to the middle of the temp gauge when the coolant's about 155-160F ... ok to push the car when it's there but I wouldn't before then.
