cold turbo noise?

it could be a manifold leak, crack, or leak in the s/j pipe coming off the mani. It probably stops once warm because it's real small so when the metal heats up from exhaust it seals up the leak. tighten everything up nice and snug. not necessarily a bad thing, unless it's a crack.

thanks man, this sounds like the place to start, and kinda what I was thinking at least in terms of the s/j pipe....is this a long complicated process of pulling stuff out of the way just to get up there, or is it pretty straightforward (ie someone with the basic skills and tools could do)?

and that made the WEEEEEEE wehn cold??
Is it only when in boost? Check your IC pipes, could be a leak.

No I think we're talking about the leaky exhaust noise, the clicking/fluttering sound.
That is what I was referring to...mine sounded just like what you were describing.

yes only in boost ?

yeah but that only does it when cold.. i dont get it.. if it was a leak it would be doing it all the time..

and it was doing it before i made my cold pipe..

as for a leak.. the boost goes way up to 6.5 no problem..

dude my car makes the same noise when its cold. its most definately a crack in the exhaust mani. i have a huge one in mine.

My car is going into Mazda on Monday... they told me that any problems within the first month would be fixed for free, so lucky me I guess. My one month is up on Tuesday.

Run some Seafoam through your intake and see if there is any smoke around your exhaust manifold. I found several leaks that way at my egr fitting and seams on my manifold. Fixed!

i took off the shield yesterday and didn't see anything..

there was a something strange looking. but once i dust it off, there wasn't anything..

then put the shield back and went for a ride and the noise was worst (screwy)

so i might have something here..

the problem is the dealer.. im gonna have to put everything stock back on the car before i take it to them.. or there gonna say it' a leak from the pipes and it's not the manifold...

i hate that.

I dunno, I had a leak at my upper IC connection. It would kinda squeal, kinda hiss and mostly do it cold (plastic pipes sealed better hot? IDK). I would be able to hit full boost (13ish psi spike, hold 9-10 psi).

Hi folks, i am bringing my car to the dealer to have i fixed under warranty. They have an issue with loose exhaust head bolts. That is 1 of my weired sounds....When warmed up, all is ok.... another thing might be the manifold that is cracked. As for the weired boost squeel and variation in boost pressure, it's my BPV also covered under my extended warranty... Do not hesitate to get in the shop with the technician and talk to him... check with him and you will be surprised how they open their eyes when you are watching!

But first, you need a good open minded dealer!

ok, so you know how if theres a hole in your exhaust somewhere, the car sounds like ass right, and you know the sound Im talking about? so I thought thats what I had going on, and was under my car looking for where the noise was coming from, expecting to replace an exhaust gasket...however the noise is coming from the turbo (or very nearby). now, this just started a couple days ago, and the noise is the worst at cold startup and pretty much disappears when the car warms up...

any ideas what the problem is?

thanks for any suggestions in advance

So my car went in today to have this noise looked at and it ended up just being a broken manifold bolt. No biggie!
