cold starts

Hello everyone, I tried searching this forum for a similar problem but I didn't see one, I might have just missed it...anyway

Whenever I start my 2002 p5 in the cold, really cold, after it's been sitting a while it takes a few seconds to start. I can hear the engine turning, but it still takes a few seconds. I thought/think this might be somehow related to the egr, but now I'm not so sure.

A friend of mine has a protege, 1999-2000ish, and he has a similar problem but his is not as significant a problem.

Any ideas?

i have too had the same problem.

try turning the key to the "on" position. wait for the beeping to stop. then turn it to start. that usually helps me.

I've always done that because i'm used to driving diesel equip, but i never knew it did that for gasoline engines.

Switch to a synthetic engine oil. It doesn't get thicker when it's cold. If you have a stick shift, switch to synthetic oil there too.

And it is cold... It is to be expected.

Try turning on the headlights for 30 secs and then turning them off. Then start the car. It will warm the battery and give you a wee bit more amperage..
