The most noticeable improvement in power comes after the car's been sitting after the engine is fully warmed up. With an OEM intake, the intake air after heat soak can be 120F+ and take quite a while to lower. During that time, your engine ecu has retarded timing enough to chop horsepower by at least 5-8 (my guess based upon experience with other cars and a data logger). With a true CAI, intake temps will drop to ambient, very quickly, avoiding power loss.
To gain a nice little jump in HP at ambient intake temps, combine a CAI with a free- flowing exhaust. Of course, that run into $1000+ bucks for about 6 WHP.
