coilover comparison

I'm looking to buy coilovers for my msp, but I don't know which brands are good. The one thing I learned is that you get what u pay for when it comes to car parts. The skunk2 are adjustable along with the awr I believe. But the differance in price is very differant. What would cause this? And which coilovers are good for our cars. I want a balance of the stock suspensions stiffness in cornering, but a much smoother ride when going over bumps.

Skunk2 are just coilover sleeves. You can adjust height, but I think that's it. You want to get a full coilover setup. BC coilovers are the best for the $$.

What exactly r the sleeves? What do they do differant beside adjust the height? Sorry but I'm a noob lol

I've never messed with sleeves, But they essentially just replace your springs with a height adjustable spring setup and use your same struts. Idk, I know people use them and I haven't heard of them failing or anything. But full coilovers are a all-in-1 adjustable/strut spring combo, with MANY adjustable pieces. Height, dampening, camber, etc...

I run adjustable struts with a set lowering spring and adjust my camber @ the strut-hub mounts personally. But if I had the $$ I would get BC coilovers and be done with it.

Just google coilover setups and start reading.

Look at the sticky at the top of this section. It explains what coilovers are.

I would highly recommend against the BC or Ksport brands. Terrible, terrible products. Look at Tein if you're on a budget and the AWR and KW products if you're serious.

I really haven't heard anything bad about the BC's... Ksports, ya avoid those like the plague.

I have BCs, really pleased with them. Got them used with a decent amount of mileage on them and they are still in great shape. Would like to know whats terrible about them though, if there is evidence to support that maybe it will help me know what to look for as they get older and take more abuse.

I know many ppl with BC's that love them and stand by them. I'm curious to know what's bad about them as well...

Older ksports blew struts left and right, the new ones "supposedly" don't.

Only issue I've ever heard of with BCs was the endlink tabs breaking due to 3 wheeling freqently but I rolled slammed for a year, 3 wheelin A.D.E.D and never had one single issue. Great price, very adjustable, huge range of ride height adjustment, great handling, etc. I have nothing but great things to say about BCs, I will get them again for my miata down the line.

Ive had both tein and now BC's both great products but Im pleased with my BC's.
Skunk2's are only going to adjust the height and just makes it real bouncy and its annoying to drive. BC's are great for the price and you can adjust the damper settings for both daily and track. This is just my experience but theres a lot of guys here that know what they are talking about

No problems here. You will however experience a harsher ride. It won't be as smooth as stock by any means. It does feel like your more planted. You will def feel the bigger bumps, but the handling is superb. I had espelirs and tokico's before these and those handled great, but the BC's handle better. In the twisties I sometimes wonder if my speedo is correct. LOL

I wouldn't recommend coilovers if you are at all worried about harshness. Sometimes my wife throws out the random "holy s***, what was that? Did something break?". haha

For the money, I don't feel cheated. If I had the flow though, I would get KW's. They have a longer track record, lifetime warranty and have been proven over a larger range of vehicles. When I got my BC's they were $850 and the KW's were $1350. You do the math. LOL

Now, those of you with the tein CO's, have you had any experiance with the EDFC?
Do they still make the bc's? I jus looked at the application list and didn't see our cars on there.. no proteges at all
