Codes, bogging, backfiring....

OK let's hear some guesses on this one. I personally have 3 guesses but I want to see what everyone else comes up with.

Heres the symptoms:

Completely stock

The car bogs down and bucks on acceleration. Not every time but a lot of times.

The check engine light was on for a couple weeks before it started doing that. I finally ran the codes and came up with a P2177, P2187, and P2195.
I then checked to make sure all of my hoses were tight and there were several that were loose so I tightened them all. Then I disconnected the battery for a bit to reset the ecu. Could it have been that easy???NOPE

Next day I was driving and the car started the jerking and bogging down again. The cel came back on. Re-ran the codes. This time I have P2177, p2187, and P2097.

I would start with the front O2 sensor. If your car was an early '07 build, I might also suspect a weak high pressure fuel pump. There is a TSB out for that problem.

I had similar performance problems, but without the CELs. Since doing a few intake enhancements, I have been running much better.

Oh yeah, you've probably already checked this, but make sure your TIP is clamped on tight. When I did my intake work, the stock clamp was so loose I pulled the TIP right off.

Yeah the TIP was one of the very first things i checked. You hit 2/3 of my guesses....

I am having a similar issue. I have not been able to check the codes but this started a while ago, and just yesterday got worse and turned on the check engine light. I looked and it seemed like the TIP is loose. Is it easier to tighten it from underneath the car? From up top there is a large wire harness and other stuff in the way from reaching the clamp.

I actually found it easily reachable with a deep socket 10m from the passenger side.

my vote is bad o2 sensors or bad maf along with the loose tip

especially considering all 3 codes have to do with lean/rich conditions.

Well I just got off the phone with my service advisor at the local dealer who is pretty cool and he told me his techs suspect the o2 sensors as well. He said to disconnect the front o2 and test drive the car to see if the symptoms disappear. If they do, then reappear after reconnecting, the o2 is shot.

I'm leaning toward 02 sensor too, but if temporary d/c of front 02 sensor does not restore drivability, consider a cheap to fix possibility: dirty MAF sensor. Get some sensor cleaner at an auto parts store and spray sensor while still in the housing, or carefully remove it and dip in in denatured alcohol to remove accumulated crud. Be careful with fine wire element. This might be all you need to do.

I just cleaned the MAF a few thousand miles ago so I dont think that is it. I am eager to do the initial d/c on the o2 but it was too damn cold today for me to get under the car so I would reach the clip...

Where the hell is the clip for the front o2 sensor?? Can you get it from the top or do you have to get under the car??

Well I found the clip(s) for the front 02 and you do need to get them from underneath. The problem is disconnecting them! what a PITA!!!!!!!!!

update:

Well I finally got around to disconnecting the o2 sensor last night which was a real pain in the ass from the ground. If it was on a lift I think it would be a lot easier!

Anyways, took it to work this morning and voila, the bucking, bogging, etc is gone.

I am having the same problem... P2187 is the code that came up. Car seams to want to stall when idling.... I have no mechanical experience so if anyone here can help with this I'd appreciate it. Thanks. Pictures if possible....

t-body

I just had my throttle body go bad. on 07 with 44,000 miles on it stock. CEL slow rev, bucks, and back fired. It cost $800 but it was covered under the california emmisions warranty.
