Had it tested and it is throwing a code P0302 misfire cylinder 2, however Im trying to figure out which is cylinder 2? I cant seem to find anything online that will tell me exactly which one is cylinder 2. No diagrams nothing...very frustrating. Bought a new coil and replaced it with the one I would have thought was coil 2, however still getting the same code. Can anyone tell me which exactly is coil 2? Thanks!

Search the forum for repair manual and you should on-line resources. In my day, the cyclinder most forward on the engine was #1, the other front cylinder was #2. You could tell #1 because it was slightly more forward than #2, the cylinder bores are not exactly across from each other to allow the piston rods to be offset on the crankshaft. Worst case scenario, go to Autozone and have them read the code, they will print out repair information for you for free.

Ok, well no luck on trying to find anything on the forums about a repair manual, even Googled it and nothing useful. I was told that cylinders 2,4,6 are in back towards the firewall and 1,3,5 are at the front of the motor. Now I'm confused.. I was also told I could individually unplug the wire connecting the each coil one by one.. and if there is a change on how the motor runs then that coil is good...once I get to one that has no effect on the engine, thats the bad coil. Going to try that as well. I've heard that misfires are very tricky to resolve. Hope its just the coil and or spark plug.

Thanks!

I have not had a COP issue on our 2009 CX-9 but I've had many of them on Ford products. The COP (coil on plug) may not fail completely and that can make it difficult to pull the coils one by one and find the cylinder that is having the problem. Sometimes the insulator (the long rubber covered tube with a metal spring inside) will have a small crack and occasionally (not all the time) the COP will short to the block and cause a misfire. I know the COP is a little expensive, it looks like they are about $60/ea on EBay but I've found the computer codes to be accurate. Assuming you want to be sure before sepending the money, swap the COPs on cylinder 2 and 4. Disconnect the battery for 10 minutes to clear all your codes. Drive the car and see if the code changes to P0304, if so you know that you have a bad COP and should replace it

Now my problem is I cant tell which is cylinder 2, can someone tell me from Right to left on the plugs closest to the firewall (back side), what the numbers are... are they 2,4,6 or 6,4,2 or 1,2,3 or 3,2,1? Im very confused here and I have found nothing online that gives me the exact location of cylinder 2. Thanks!

It is the center coil closest to the firewall . cylinder 1,2, and 3 are on the back 1 is on passenger back 3 is on driver back. cylinder 4,5 and 6 are on the front 4 is on passenger front and 6 is on drivers front
