S U, do you have an opinion as to why Cobb box came into design. Is it to suppress noise?
I have read a fair bit about the comparisons between the cai and the sri. And a bit of experience with the them. If these guys are protecting the IAT, they might know something and are adjusting for it. Of course there is more to the air intake flow than just temp but i feel more comfortable with more coolerha air being pulled from in front of the motor and radiator. it really is an old school 60s-70s method that works. The mazdaspeed cai, which I have, is still not getting the best air available but it sure is better than the stock box
I just installed mine last night. i really didnt notice any "gains" just a bad grin on my face from the incredible sound the bypass valve makes. honestly i think its all for noise.
That's interesting! Mine pulls hard as hell after I installed the Cobb SRI.
i'm pretty sure that the intake is all mental.
Dyno's show 15 - 20WHP and 15 - 20lb.ft improvements from an SRI or CAI over stock.i'm pretty sure that the intake is all mental.
May i ask about, the volume of air, and or what increased speed air can travel with a performance intake? We have talked about IATs and I agree on most all of the points made by you guys. thanks
I guess that explains why my 1/4 time went from 14.3 to 13.9 after I put on the Cobb SRI. Did you reset the ECU and give it time to adapt?
it could be that you finally learned how to drive =)
fn hot. in the bad wayDashhawk went in after my Cobb SRI, so I don't have a baseline for IAT..... plus my ambient has been registering 104* here in Maryland lately, so I'm sure you don't want my readings right now![]()
Alright, back up! Today I monitored my IAT and ambient air temperature on my way to school (teacher, not a student). BTW I only have cobb sri and tsx-h for go-fast. On the tsx-h I'm running 2 washers right now instead of 4 working on a comparisson on another post. Readings are coming from a dashhawk flashed with the latest beta about a month ago.
After about 90 seconds of warm-up I registered:
AMB: 76
IAT: 88
Once I started moving, the IAT immediately dropped to about 75.
Continuing my drive I mainly got AMB 73 IAT 73, unless I stopped for a light, at which point the IAT always jumped up to between 88 and 90.
When I arrived at school I noted that the AMB had gone up a few degrees but the IAT remained at 73 while driving. When I stopped in my parking spot, the idle IAT was upto 93. Imagine if my drive was more than about 15 minutes (and don't be jealous, I'm looking at an hour plus for maybe my new school next year)
Any heatsoak seems to be neglidgeable as sonnas you get moving
