Cobb SRI cleaning question

Hey guys, I've had the Cobb SRI on my speed for about 25 thousand miles I think. I know eventually you have to clean it, and re-oil it, I was just wondering when it becomes absolutely necessary. It might just be my imagination but I feel like there's a slight loss in power in the lower gears and I'm wondering if a dirty filter might be the cause.

Also, how do you clean it? Just run it under some warm water? And is there any special oil you need? I found some "filter oil" at autozone, but want to know exactly what I need before I buy it. Any info would be appreciated.

COBB sells a cleaning kit. But based on my previous experience with oil filters, there's really no set-in-stone time to clean them because it all depends on your driving conditions. Live in a dry, dusty place and the intervals are much shorter.

The kits have a cleaning solution and an oil. Just follow the instructions.

Yeah i know they sell a kit, was just hoping i wouldn't have to spend the 25 bucks or so that it costs, that estimate might be off. but thanks, i'll probably bite the bullet and get it.

I have actually cleaned mine with the K&N filter recharger kit I had left over from my previous cars. I got mine at my nearest auto parts store for around $15.00 I believe.

if you go by cobb its suppose to be cleaned every oil change and being the loser i am i do it every oil change. over kill- yes! but i am a fool

yeah doesnt hurt if you clean it every oil change and Kain is also right depending on your location,your filter will need to be serviced sooner. I myself replaced the oil cobb filter with a amsoil dryflow filter....and all I do is use warm water and wash it in the sink...works wonderful..dont need to recharged kits..But yeah just get a recharge kit if your staying with the cobb filter and follow the instructions

holy crap 25k miles? i do mine every 2-4k. once it turns white/gray its time to reoil. filters not doing its job anymore.

just a heads up, plan on not driving the car the day you clean it, or do it in the evening when you know youre not gonna need the car. gotta wash the filter and let it airdry before applying the oil, DO NOT OVEROIL or you will kill the MAF sensor. I did this already, luckily I had a spare. its a good idea to let the filter sit overnight to allow any excess oil drain out of the filter too.

I use the k&n kit personally and it works fine.

Every oil change? Wow, s***, I'm way over due I guess. It just doesn't look dirty to me, but I'll definitely pick up that K&N kit from autozone today after work and do it tonight. thanks guys.

I used the K&N one. It worked, but the oil is dyed red (or atleast mine was).. so when I re-oiled, but Cobb blue filter came out purple, which isn't the worst thing in the world. I would have rather kept it blue, but I just didn't care.

I actually bought the Cobb kit from Upscale Automotive.

My only gripe with ALL of these types of cleaning kits is that they always seem to supply a disproportionate amount of oil for the amount of cleaning solution...I always end up with extra oil leftover after the cleaning solution is all gone (after multiple uses, of course)...

Waste $50 bucks and buy a DRY Amsoil filter! (=

Then all you have to do is spray some air from time to time, no need to oil it.

You really dont need to clean it every oil change but atleast check it and maybe take it off and just nock off whatever dirt you can. It can mess up your MAF sensor if you clean and oil it too much.

Use water with a couple drops of dish soap, a soft brush and, let the filter air dry. People have been doing that with K&N filters for decades.
