Cobb SRI back in stock!

Hey everyone, just thought I'd like you know that Chris from Cobb just called me, letting me know that the SRI's for the Speed3's are back in stock and shipping to those who have orders.

FINALLY. I ordered mine in June, and I'll finally get it next week.

Yay. :)

Let's do some math. Let's say they have been out of stock since June. It's now December. Let's just say that out of the $175 list price, $100 of it are only parts and research, so they make $75 a piece. Let's just say there have been 1,000 SRI's sold since they've been on backorder (I honestly doubt that 1,000 MS3 owners bought SRI's, but just rounding up).

Example purposes:
SRI $175 ($75 profit).
Used SRI $175-$250 ($75 max profit potential)

1,000 sales x $75 profit margin ea. unit= $75,000 Gross Margin Dollars

1,000 sales x $175 POTENTIAL profit margin ea. unit= $175,000 (they could have brought in if they only sold it for $250 like most used SRI's).

I dunno. I'd say they lost a lot? Of course, these are only estimates if they make $75 a piece on them. I'd hope they do. Any less and that may not be worth it.

Wow about time, how many months were these on backorder? I got mine right as they all sold out back in June or whatever.

Eh, doubtful. Only way they would have lost money is if they had people cancel their orders or buy something else because of the backorder. They're not losing any money on the people who ordered, paid, and waited (like me)

You're forgetting all the money that was spent having to find a new supplier and re-build all those failed units. So far, the Cobb SRI and STS have been a PITA for them and their customers. Unfortunate, but true.

I would wait, only I hate oiled filters and it literally seems just too simple. I'd pay the extra $25 and get some polished aluminum pieces (CP-E) to justify spending $200 on a filter and a piece of piping.

True. Oh well at this point LOL. The filter can't be TOO specific...maybe it's possible to replace it with a non-oiled filter at some point?

LOL! They left a gaping hole in a market that they had cornered, which allowed CPE, K&N, Protege Garage, HKS to all capitalize and bring new products to market. My guess is that they won't ever sell as many of these as they were before the back order...

I know a guy on m3f has replaced it with a dry Amsoil filter. It's big diameter opening to accomodate the velocity stack, though, so it might be a little harder than most to replace.

Cobb should have imporved thier intake during the down time. I.e. billet MAF piping and maybe an air box of some sort. The cobb guys make most of thier money off subaru then probably evo's anyway, I dont think they were too worried.

^^

Mine shipped out Friday, should (finally) get it in a couple of days.

so true. ex: PG's MAF housing. i've been debating on stopping by jsc speed since they have a few in stock but im seeing the MAF housing to be a whole lot more. plus it'll still be cheaper since you can choose your filter.

our short ram intake is almost in stock, ready to ship, cheaper, not made of plastic, with a better filter to boot

if that comes across as a wee bit of trash talking, i'm sorry. i just think its unfair to have a community wait for simple parts like this and then charge them between 180 and 200 for what amounts to an air filter and a silicone tube. if i could have had mine out sooner, i would have.
