Does anyone have the Cobb Short Shifter? I want to get a new shifter and I like the idea that the Cobb is adjustable in throw and in shifter height. Can you give me any feedback?
Thanks
Not yet, but check out Mazda Speed Forums . org for a full install and driving impressions writeup.
This means you could potentially **** up your knob.

Dave @ Cobb said:It has come to my attention that the thread on our upper shafts (both old and new) are incorrect. Please do not install these shafts as they could damage your stock shift knob. I have our machine shop making replacements. They have already begun machining them this morning. Between shipping and zinc plating and finishing up machining, we should have the replacements with the correct thread pitch early next week.
I am very sorry for the trouble. I know you guys want to install them as soon as you can. Trust me, I was excited to see the final version finally shipping. This dimensional oversight was mine. You can send any hate mail my way to dave@cobbtuning.com. Or just PM me on here. We are working as fast as we can to replace them for you. I just don't want you to do any damage by installing them. So please be patient and wait another week or so. Again, I am very sorry for the trouble this may cause you.

ThreeEdgedSword - did you get an upper shaft with incorrect threading from Cobb? I just got mine in the mail and haven't installed it yet but am curious how widespread this problem is before I tear apart my centre console and find out I can't get the shift knob on the sucker!
You don't have to do a full install and take everything apart just to test the knob on the shifter. Take the knob off and test it on the shifter before doing anything else. And be careful as Kain says b/c you could strip your threads.
Even better, email Cobb and ask if you were sent a bad shifter.
Yah, I realize I could do that but it's all too easy to cause damage and not know it considering it's just plastic threading on the OEM knob. But you're right, I could try emailing Cobb directly and asking, only problem is I got the STS through SU.
Cobb would probably know through your serial number. Email takes a few minutes. =)
