Cobb filter Turning White

Sorry to bring up an old thread but I was installing my TurboXS Hybrid BoV this past weekend and I noticed that the filter on the Cobb SRI was a bit white. How do I go about cleaning it? Do I need to re-oil? If so, what do I use for that?

mine is only white when i clean it ...

any filter cleaner and oil should be fine.

I use k&n filter clean and oil ...

If it is really dark in color, you may have oiled it too much. I never tried the cobb oil, but you should only put a even light layer of oil and let it dry for about 30mins to an hour. Over saturated filters will suck that oil in and get on your MAF sensor which is a big .. no no

Oil on the MAF can cause studdering, stalling and rough idle. Even not starting.
It can be cleaned, but MAF sensors are very sensitive due to that they measure air. A new MAF will most likely range 300-400 bucks and up. Not sure how much for our cars, being that they are pretty new.

Hey Guys just think about how much of that "OIL" is getting sucked into the intake track, I had my cobb on for a few days and it started to turn white so I took it off and went and bought a dry filter, couldn't believe how much oil and dirt had collected on the inside on the velocity stack in just a few days, i was amazed! So i'm sticking with a dry filter, if anyone is interested in my COBB filter I'll sell it!!!

i didnt spray heavy and it dried for a few hours. no studder no stall no bounce running great and i checked the maf its clean and has no oil on it so i aint worried.

I'm getting the dry filter as soon as mine gets dirty enough to justify the cost. I will then send my used filter to anyone that will cover the cost of shipping it.

Hey bro that's sounds like a plan, however I would say sell it so u can recope some on the money for the dry filter. The amsoil one I bought set me back 62 bucks shipped, definately ain't cheap.

well if done properly .. oiled filter should not harm anything.

i've been using oiled filters for a few years now and on 3 different cars and it worked with no problem.

I never had issues with Cobb's oiled filter, just follow the cleaning/ oiling instructions for christ sakes!

I just checked my instructions for the cobb sri, they don't specify a cleaning/re oil schedule anywhere in there, or on their website....

Air filter that were oiled that I owned in the past, generally they recommended 30-50k before cleaning, and then being very, very careful when reoiling to prevent fouling of the MAF sensor.

If you buy the cleaning / oiling kit from cobb the instructions are on the bottles. It's recommended to clean at each oil interval according to Cobb.

Would it be that difficult to post up here so we know when they are telling folks to redo it?
