I was entering onto the Interstate in 6th gear, dropped to 5th and got into the gas and the clutch slipped badly. I did ride the clutch a little but I didn't expect the clutch to slip that easly. It stunk up the car with a burnt odor. The car is new with only 1300 miles. I hope I haven't glazed it. Should I worry. I drove home gently.

Scott.

Sounds like a serious warranty issue to me!

This happened to me once recently but I was going from 4th to 5th and it was the only time I ever smelled the clutch. It didn't smell right away though, it was only when I stopped and the air got a chance to come into the cabin. 5th gear can be finicky in this car. Now I usually give 5th more time to catch before applying throttle. I had a habit of applying throttle before or at the same time the clutch was releasing to get better acceleration. Now I just take my time and don't rush things.

I wouldn't worry about it too much unless it happens again.

exactly. the first time it happens dont worry about it too much. just try not to let it happen again

mine did it to around 3000 miles it slipped through 3rd and 4th the first time then about 2 month later i did it in 6th gear and then i did it a few more times... but now 9000 miles and 4 months later it hasnt done it since and my clutch still grabs... its fine now... but i do want to buy a new clutch .... just when it happens take it easy a few hundred miles

Be careful when you say "I want a new clutch". The MS3 has a dual mass flywheel and a special clutch to match. The flywheel cannot be machined so it must be replaced with the clutch. $$$$.

How serious a problem is glazing a clutch, or how likely is it to actually happen? I've heard of this before, and I'm curious too if one bad clutch slip will "ruin" a clutch or decrease its life by more than a slight amount.

I had a valet ride the hell out of mine coming out of a parking ramp; made like a sweetish burning smell that I didn't recognize right away, otherwise I'd have confronted them about it. It smelled for literally weeks after that, although I wasn't driving the car much during that time. Like cosmic, I'm worried that it may have affected the long term life of the clutch.

i went to the track and TRIED to do a 1\4 mile today. i revved up to approx 2800, and let the clutch out quickly, but not quite dumping it. it slipped, did not grab at all. this was the first run i was to do, and i was driving the car real nice to the track. something is wrong with my car.
