Clutch replacement without engine removal?

Hi all, my 2006 Mazda2 ate its clutch catastrophically. The thrust bearing had been noisy for a long time so I suspect it jammed, smashed a finger spring and that is now stuck in the flywheel somehow if the noise is anything to go by. My other half doesn't want to pour money into an 18 year old car so if I can do the clutch replacement myself it will keep it from the scrapyard. I do like the little bus and would prefer to hang onto it but not if it starts costing more than its value.

What I want to know is, can you get enough clearance to get the gearbox off from below without having to remove the whole engine? Is it possible to tilt it enough? It's really hard to find info on this model of Mazda2. Everything is for the one after or for Mazda3s.

I've done my fair share of clutches or gearboxes on rwd cars in situ (808, 1300, RX2 to name a few...) so if I can get at it, I should be fine to do the replacement.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Im not 100% on the first gen but i bought my 2nd gen about a year ago and it needed a clutch bad, i ordered one off of LUK and did it on jack stands in my garage, all i had to do was separate the tranny after removing the battery/tray and disconnecting the wiring harness and linkages I was then able to take the tranny out and put the new clutch.
