Clutch chatter Revisited?

Hello all, I was wondering if you have had the clutch chatter fixed or have it presently? I know there is a TSB about it but dealer kinda bitched about my car having 32000 miles and I am complaining now about it. So should I complain more or did I miss my window of fixing it because of the 12month 12000 mile wear warranty?

Any input would be great.

b**** about it...the car comes with a 3 yr 50k mile warranty standard...what's this 12 month 12k mile thing?
I had it done, dealer was really cool (I had about 20k miles when done) Feels like a completely different(better) car after the fix.
Good luck.

Thanks will do, How long did it take them to do though?

wear warranty is like brakes, clutch wipers. Stuff that is normal wear and tear.

huh, never heard of it...Anway, go here http://web2.airmail.net/emann/protegefaq/tsb/
and pick up the TSB and bring it in. I actually left my car with them when I was overseas for a week, and they were still finishing it up when I got back, so I'm not sure on how long it would actually take. (then again, they did a lot more than just the tranny when it was there...[bushings, front and back, and a bunch of other things...lol my copy of the work sheet was about 7 pages long, not exaggerating, could have been longer]) Good luck.

I brought mine in with 15-16. I complained at around 13 and noticed it at around 7. (I bought the car at 5).

Took me a while to realize that it wasn't the way I was driving. :P

Anyways, it took them 6 hours to do it. Actually, they charged Mazda for 3.7 hours. I just left it overnight because I was out of town.

Can be done in 1 day if they have the parts.

My car was out of the 12000 mile clutch warranty, but the dealer told me, that because there was an actual TSB, they would go ahead and change it out anyway.

My MP3 is in for the clutch, rear @#$% suspension and now FRONT suspension noise. I have complained about the clutch since DAY ONE and finally discovered the TSB. Dropped on the service manager's desk and said: "Told you it was a problem".

He asked (since I brought it in about 12noon) if I was leaving it for tomorrow. I told him "I'm leaving it until it's done."

Hey guys...

I have a P5 with the clutch chatter issue. I took it in to the dealer with a copy of the TSB in hand, but they told me that no such TSB exists on my car. I checked with 2 other dealers and got the same response. Finally, I called Mazda customer service, and they also told me that it doesnt exist.

Has anyone else had this problem with their dealers? I kind of a a dead end here.

The problem is that the chatter is intermittent and will be hard to replicate for a dealer. And with them denying the TSB, if it is replicated, they will just tell me its time for a new clutch at my own expense. (i have 25,000 mile).

Unfortunately for me, my luck was not that good when I left it overnight. They still couldn't replicate it. Even if they could have, the guy told me straight that I was out of luck because with 20 some thousand miles, they could not put in a clutch under warranty (because they say there is no clutch chatter TSB).

Can any body accurately describe clutch chatter? I don't know if I have it (probably too late if I do with 24k miles). I've searched, and people just mention it as if every body is supposed to know what it means :).

When I had it, it felt like what some would feel is wheel hop...but worse...almost like the tranny was about to fall out...several loud bangs, and shudders (as if the clutch kept trying to catch, but couldn't and when it did, caught completely, then released) as you release the clutch in first mostly, second sometimes and third once in a blue moon...
sorry that description kind of sucks, but that is about all i can do typing. Good luck :) Plus, if your dealer is cool, you should be fine, i had mine done with about 20-21k miles.

Does the TSB apply to all Protege's or is it only an MP3 fix? My P5 definitely chatters/shudders when cold and at 11900 it actually seems to be happening more frequently

The TSB I saw posted on a (non-Mazda) website was for all Gen3 Proteges.

Update on my MP3: Dealer made it better, but it's still a bit flaky when cold.

Get it warranteed before they throw you some sort of "wear and tear" excuse.

It's been completely solved for mine.. in fact way better.

Well I have a weird thing on a cold start during a COLD day where starting from first is just fine, but going into second and letting out the clutch normally doesn't catch right away, but all of a sudden does and jerks. Stops after one or two of these, OR I just let it out real slow. Never happens in first though.
