I have a clunking noise in the front end of my 2002 Mazda Protege DX. I already replaced rear stabilizer end links but I'm not sure what the noise in the front is. It sounds as though the struts could be finished, but is there anything else that could make this noise? (strut mount, end link...) Any help would be appreciated. Also, is there a DIY somewhere on how to change the timing belt and water pump on a 1.6L? Thanks in advance.

my problem when i had clunking in the front was my tie rods for steering. But also it could be your strut mounts, including the bearing in the strut mount.

Ok. The car has 100 000 kms so i don't think it is the struts. i have had pretty good luck with struts lasting well over 175k or more. so it could be the strut mount, end links?, or tie-rod ends? Anyways, what about the timing belt. what did you guys do? do it yourself or bring it to get done? any help would be appreciated.

My sway bar end links on my 02 went in that order, back first, front last.

FWIW- my front struts went after the end links (big clue was how small bumps made the front wash out on turns) but the rears are still fine, both my rear abs sensors went, but fronts are fine
