So today I just notice that sometimes when I shift I hear like a clunk underneath the car? anyone know anything about this?

never heard before today, its like shift into 2nd foot off clutch then clunk like something bounced up and hit the bottom

Do a search, many other ppl have noticed this as well. Mine did it from day one and I haven't any problems so far.

Is this your first manual transmission front wheel drive car?

The positions of the transaxle and engine, the clutch actuation linkage and the location of the various cables and links to the gear shifter usually produce these types of clunks and noises in most manual fwd cars, except perhaps the most expensive ones.

I have had similar cluncking sounds in three different Saabs before I got this MS3. I just think it comes with the territory. There is a lot of stuff moving around under there, both under load and being released from load when you shift.

But if it is a new sound in a car you have had for a long time, then you might want to get it looked at.

I've heard of the shifter weight hitting different CAIs. Check for dings and dents if you have one... your coy sig doesn't help the diagnosis, hehe.

was that the end of this, that it was normal? I have a clunking noise under light acceleration when shifting and in low rpm wen I step on the gas and let off. It seems to only be in lower rpms. I have checked the rear motor mount and everyhitng is fine there and then I took out the battery box and checked the tranny mount and that was fine as well. Anyone find a solution to this? Its not a heat shield or anythin else that I can find loose.

Cx-7 with the auto sport shift was the same.... my ms3 is the same.... no worries, I think, just a 'clunk' from 1st into 2nd, especially the first few times during a drive.

The reason why i say that is because mine does the clunk thing when i dont rev match qite right when shifting, and when i do rev match right its nice and smooth clutch uptake with no sounds or clunks.

I only hear it. Its not the bolt I checked last weekend and everthing looks good and the recall was done on it when it was first issued..

I had the same problem with my brand new, two-week old sp3. Dealer tech said it's definitely not normal. They have the car for repairs. The dealer I bought the car from is one of the few real MazdaSpeed dealers in the country. They should know what's normal or not.
