I have been looking on here and people are saying they have a "clunk" and there is a clunk fix. I found that... but when I drive my car people keep telling me my struts / mounts are bad... how do I figure out what is bad... the "clunk" or my struts/mounts?
Thanks

k this is what i noticed with mine. I got my mp3 in december and it used to make all sorts of noises over bumps and whatever. People said it was my bushings but now that it has been warmer out, the clunk is gone? lol that was my solution i guess when the stuff like froze it squeeked or whatever, but i dunno lol

the only noticeable sign of the 'clunk' is just the noise. the rear end might handle slightly worse. for bad struts, you need to go to each corner of the car and put all of your body weight on it and push down, then let go quickly. if it bounces back up fast, goes down, then slowly rises to the stock position, then it's fine (for the most part). if there isn't much motion or bounce, that strut is bad. also check for uneven tire wear

Disconnect the rear sway bar (it's VERY easy) and drive around. If the clunk is gone, then it's probably the rear sway bar clunk. If it's still there, then it might be your strut mounts.

It's sort of the opposite dude... if the car bounced a few times the struts are bad, if it doent have much motion, say, it comes up and goes down to the original position they they are mint. Think about this, if you only had springs, it would act like a spring, up down, up down untile the engergy has been used up. The shock prevents the spring from doing this.

If the car is completely stock then chances are it's the clunk. But also given the age of the car, it could be a number of things suspension related.

My money is on the clunk. These people you talk about, they are telling you struts/mounts probably because they don't know about the MP3/MSP bushing issue.

if you are on lowering springs, then it could be the strut mount. For that you will need to do the washer trick. Another spring issue is that maybe your coils are slamming together goin over bumps causing a clunk sound. For that you will need to get some spring rubbers. If it is neither of those then it is prolly the sway bar bushings. For that you will need to replace your bushings, but after a few months, the clunk will return. To cure it of that particular clunk, you will need to purchase a clunk fix bracket kit from evolv. Hope this helps...

Thanks for all the replys I'll be checking into this when it gets warmer.. I hear of more snow this weekend :(
