Climate control selector question

'03 P5 A/T
Hello everyone. This is a bizarre one and I was curious if everyone elses '03 P5 does the same. When the selector switch blows on only the floor, floor/defrost, or only defrost, the A/C compressor & engine cooling fan kicks on. This seems logical for the defrost selection but the floor is where I don't get it. Does anyone elses car do this? Why in the world would you need the a/c compressor on when only blowing hot air on the floor? Thanks!

If you live in a wet climate, try running the heat in the bi-level position. You will fog up in no time (at least I do). The A/C runs in the floor position so you can get comfortable heat and not fog up...
