Clear coat peeling on my hood

So i just noticed this on my hood today, the clear coat is peeling like a bad sunburn in a couple spots on my hood. I swear it wasnt like that last week when i was on vacation. The spot is about 8" wide and theres two more spots smaller than a dime that are beginning to peel. Would a body shop be able to blend that or would it just be better to re-paint the whole thing? Anyone have their hood repainted? if so how much did it cost you? I didnt get home from work untill after most shops closed so i havent been able to call around.

that's just the clear. You shouldn't need a full re-paint. If it's still under paint / rust warranty (or whatever it is, I dont' remember), you should be able to take that to the dealer and have them do it. If not, it soulnd't be to big of a deal for a good body shop to sand the clear off, then re-spray a couple coats on there.

Holy crap. Did you ever wax your car? That is a super thin layer a clear. Looks like it was badly repainted before.

I'd just go ahead and have the hood repainted if its not under warranty. The paint underneath may not have been prepped properly from the factory and that is why there is poor adhesion of the clear coat.

I had a Dodge Shadow convertible that did the same thing and it ran about $400.00 to have both the hood and trunk resprayed then. (approximately 2 yrs ago)

oh my.. get it taken care of before it gets bigger or causes rust..

just have it re-cleared with a better clear than the factory, and make sure you give your car a good waxing about every 3 months or so.

Warranty, nope. Its an 02 with 73k on it. The hood has has always had some weird blemishes that would never come off. Honestly ive only waxed it 2 times since i got it in 2004. Im too lazy everytime i wash it im like eh thats good enough. and my car is exrtremly dirty in that pic. It rained a couple nights ago and i live in the desert so it pretty much rains mud.

mine's starting to do that i noticed there are a few things i need to get done paint-wise on the car, hopefully next year. luckily i know a body-man that does a fair bit of work on the side

Mine did the same thing except all over the doors...Yup it sucks..I tried re clearing first...but then just repainted the entire car

Eagle One's "Wax as you Dry". I use it after every wash. Leaves an extra barrier of protection.
