Proteges 96 (Sold), 98 (Sold), 01 ES, 03DX
I know this has been discussed 100x, but I cant seem to find any general statement about the failure. I have a green 01 ES and the clear is going. I just bought an 03 DX Sandalwood (brown) that looks perfect. Just wondering if I should be worried about the 03 and if I should do anything to prevent failure. The 01 only started crapping out like 1-2 years ago. Thanks

My green 02 has the same problem because my daughter had to park it in the sun at school, every day. Dark cars in general are far more susceptible to UV damage than lighter cars. If you really want your clear coat to last, keep it clean with something like this:

And use a car cover. If you can't use a cover because your car is parked in an area that is not very safe, try to park under shade whenever possible. I use the 3D stuff, once per week (takes no more than 15 minutes) using microfiber towels from Costco. If your car is left out on a busy street, you may need to rinse it off with water, first before using the 3D.
Something like a carnuba wax may protect better but 3D is much easier and faster to use so you're more likely to have a fresh coat on your car all the time.
